President Prabowo Increases Synergy Between Agencies to Eradicate Drugs
Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of synergy between government agencies in eradicating various national threats, including drug abuse. Prabowo instructed a number of strategic institutions, such as the Attorney General’s Office, the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), to work together in facing serious challenges that threaten the country’s stability.
“I ask the Attorney General, the Chief of Police, the BPKP, the State Intelligence Agency to focus on serious threats to us such as online gambling, drugs, smuggling, embezzlement, corruption, leaks. Only with firm law enforcement and strong intelligence, strong evidence can we immediately mitigate all of this,” Prabowo said in an open meeting in Jakarta.
The President stressed that drug eradication cannot be solved partially. A comprehensive approach is needed that combines law enforcement and cross-agency cooperation to dismantle the increasingly complex drug trafficking network.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo highlighted the problem of drug control that is often carried out from behind bars. According to him, a number of drug control cases are carried out by perpetrators who are in correctional institutions (prisons), often with the help of certain prison officers.
“Synergy across all ministries/institutions, especially us (the National Police) with the Ministry of Immigration and the Directorate of Corrections is greatly needed. Many drug cases are controlled from prisons, even by perpetrators who are given severe sentences such as the death penalty or life imprisonment,” explained National Police Chief Sigit.
The National Police also collaborates with various parties, from the Directorate of Corrections to the community, to strengthen supervision and prevent abuse of authority in prisons. This synergy effort is considered important considering the difficulties in implementing heavy punishment executions, which actually encourage the control of drug trafficking from within prisons.
At the regional level, real steps of synergy between agencies are also visible. Head of Planning Section of Malang City Police, AKBP Yuliati, conveyed the success of Malang City Police in embracing the community and related agencies to establish a Drug-Free Village (KBN) in Tlogomas Village, Lowokwaru District.
“With the KBN, we can directly prevent drugs in the community. Strengthening synergy between the police, related agencies, and the community is very necessary to prevent drug trafficking at the grassroots level,” said AKBP Yuliati.
In West Lombok, a similar synergy was also implemented by the West Lombok Police together with the West Lombok Class IIA Prison. The West Lombok Police Chief, AKBP I Komang Sarjana, stated that the cooperation was a strategic step to create a drug-free environment.
“The support from the West Lombok Class IIA Prison really helped us in catching drug networks,” he explained.
With collaborative steps from the central to regional levels, the government is optimistic that it can effectively overcome drug trafficking in Indonesia, in order to create a healthy and safe society.
