55

By the Pilkada 2024, we are faced with a major challenge that tests compactness and unity as a nation. In the midst of political turmoil, the SARA issue is often raised as a weapon to gain sympathy or even create division.
However, if we want to an integrated Pilkada, we should have jointly rejected the politicization of SARA, not only to preserve social stability, but also to ensure a healthy and dignified future of democracy.
Kabid Humas Polda Kalimantan Central, Kombes Pol. Erlan Munaji, has reminded the people in the province to be alert to SARA issues that may arise by Pilkada. These issues have the potential to trigger social conflict that can disrupt security and order in the jurisdiction of Polda Kalteng.
This warning is not unfounded, given our history that has recorded how the SARA issue can undermine the harmony and humility we are proud of.
Preventive measures have been taken by Polda Kalteng to maintain unity and avoid the spread of issues that could divide society. By increasing patrols and surveillance in various regions, Polda Kalteng is trying to ensure that the province, which is twice the size of the island of Java, remains safe and conducive by H Pilkada day simultaneously.
However, this is not just the duty of the security apparatus, but also our responsibility as citizens who care about the future of the nation.
A critical and wise attitude in receiving information is the key to avoiding provocations that can disrupt social order.
Cyber patrols were also carried out by Polda Kalteng to suppress the spread of hoaks and hate speech on social media. It is a form of proactive response that is highly needed in the digital age, where information can spread rapidly and widely.
It’s not only Polda Kalteng who’s active in the prevention of SARA polarization. The General Election Commission (KPU) is also taking strategic steps. The KPU calls on all pilgrims and volunteers to stay away from hate speech.
KPU member Idham Holik explained that the prohibition of hate speech has been laid down in the KPU Rules on the Campaign.
Idham Holik reminds us that in every scandal or election, narratives or hate speeches often emerge to destroy the reputation of political opponents. Therefore, he urged all parties to abide by the rules of the campaign and use ethical communication.
Idham is confident that all sides have understood the rules and hopes that as the campaign proceeds, the communication will be more alert and non-conflict.
Meanwhile, the Election Supervisory Authority (Bawaslu) DKI Jakarta predicts an increase in hate speech in Pilkada 2024. Burhanuddin, a member of the Bawaslu DKI Jakarta, revealed that SARA-related violations and hate speech are expected to be one of the highest virginities.
Burhanuddin insisted that preventive efforts should be carried out comprehensively, involving all parties, and that there should be strong action against violations.
Pilkada should be a moment to celebrate democracy, not to break up. In an atmosphere of warming political competition, it is easy for the SARA issue to be used as a dangerous political tool.
However, as a nation that values diversity and diversity, we must unite in rejecting all forms of SARA politicization.
Besides, ining conducibility during Pilkada also means giving room for healthy and idea-based contestation, not based on superficial primordial sentiment. This is the time for us as voters to also be smarter in judging and choosing leaders who are genuinely committed to the progress of the region and the nation.
Not least, the role of the media in Pilkada should also be directed to educate and enlighten the public, not to heat up the situation by spreading tendency or unverified news.

The media must be a defender of fair and balanced democracy, provide objective information and avoid the spread of fragmentary narratives.
If we want to a Pilkada of integrity, then it is time that we dare to fight the politization of SARA in all its forms. Of course it’s not an easy task, given the complexity and challenges in the field.
However, with the collective awareness and cooperation of all elements of society, we can do it. From the state apparatus, the organizers of the elections, the successful candidates and teams, to the general public, everyone must play an active role inining the integrity of this nation.
Let us make Pilkada 2024 a proof that democracy in Indonesia is growing mature and dignified. Rejecting SARA’s politicization is not only aboutining security and order, but also about respecting and protecting the diversity that is the wealth of this nation.
