The Public Must Accept the Results of the Regional Elections That Were Implemented Democratically
LAMPUNG – The implementation of the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) in Lampung Province has been successful. According to the Chairman of the Lampung Province General Election Commission (KPU), Erwan Bustami, this year’s Pilkada was held safely, peacefully, smoothly, and in accordance with democratic principles. This is a very important achievement, considering that the Pilkada stages have started since mid-2022 and will end in 2024. The implementation of the Pilkada which went well not only shows the maturity of democracy, but also the active participation of the community and support from the media as important pillars in the democratic system in Indonesia.
Erwan Bustami expressed his gratitude for the success of the Pilkada in Lampung which successfully involved many parties, including the KPU in 15 regencies/cities. This success was achieved thanks to the hard work and commitment of various parties, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the Pilkada ran according to democratic rules and principles. “We are very grateful even though this year was very tiring because the stages took quite a long time,” he said.
This success also received appreciation from the Lampung Police Chief, Inspector General Helmy Santika. He emphasized that the implementation of the safe Pilkada was the result of synergy between various parties, including security forces and the community. This synergy proves a shared commitment to maintaining stability and democracy, and shows that the people of Lampung have high political maturity.
It is important for the community to continue to prioritize a mature attitude in accepting the results of the Pilkada that have been implemented. Pilkada is a democratic process that prioritizes the people’s right to vote, and the results must be respected even though they do not always match the choices of each individual. The elected candidate pair is a representation of the choice of the majority of the community, which is expected to bring progress to the regions they lead.
