Pope Ends Apostolic Visit to Indonesia Full of Impressions, Continues to Papua New Guinea

Jakarta — Pope Francis ended his series of apostolic visits to Indonesia today, Friday (6/9), marking the end of a series of meaningful spiritual journeys.

Before leaving, the Pope attended a farewell ceremony held at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Jakarta, at 10:00 WIB. Pope Francis and his entourage flew from Indonesia to Papua New Guinea on Garuda Indonesia.

“We boarded the Garuda Airbus Neo 900,” said Deputy Media Coordinator for Pope Francis’ Visit Committee, Anthonius Gregorius.

Pope Francis is scheduled to arrive at Jacksons International Airport, Port Moresby at approximately 19:50 local time, Friday, September 6, 2024. Pope Francis’ apostolic journey in Papua New Guinea will last for four days, from September 6 to 9, 2024.

In Papua New Guinea, Pope Francis will meet with state authorities, bishops, deacons, seminarians, and visit children. The Pope will also lead a mass at Sir John Guise Stadium on September 8, 2024.

After visiting Papua New Guinea, Pope Francis will continue his apostolic journey to Timor Leste. Pope Francis will be in Timor Leste from 11 to 13 September 2024, and then continue his journey to Singapore.

Pope Francis’ visit to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea demonstrates the Vatican’s continued commitment to promoting peace and unity around the world. Observers hope that the messages conveyed during the visit will continue to resonate and inspire many in the region.
