President Jokowi Opens the 2nd IPPP in Jakarta: Strengthening Parliamentary Cooperation in the Pacific Region

Jakarta – The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, officially opened the 2nd Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) event in Jakarta today (25/7). The event, which was attended by members of parliament from Pacific countries, aims to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation in the region.

 In his speech, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of this forum as a means of strengthening relations between Indonesia and Pacific countries and highly appreciated the Indonesian-Pacific parliamentary partnership.

 “As a strategic initiative to strengthen partnerships in the Pacific, it is very important to implement it,” said President Jokowi. 

 According to Jokowi, there are three important sectors that currently need joint and immediate handling, namely climate change, the blue economy and human resource development. 

 “Regarding human resource development through education and training carried out inclusively, including for women and youth to increase productivity and innovation,” said Jokowi.

The President advised Indonesia-Pacific to continue to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood, mutual trust and mutual respect.

“Through strong collaboration we can maintain stability and achieve prosperity,” he said.

This event, which brought together parliaments from Pacific countries, discussed various important topics, including economic cooperation, climate change, maritime security and sustainable development. The participants will also conduct intensive dialogue to formulate joint policy recommendations.

Meanwhile, the Chair of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, said that she had confidence that the 2nd IPPP meeting could produce concrete steps that could be useful for the people.

On this occasion, Puan invited cooperation to advance relations between Pacific countries and create a peaceful, stable and prosperous Pacific region.

“Work together to advance relations between Pacific countries and let us create a peaceful, stable and prosperous Pacific region,” said Puan.

Previously, Dr. Fadli Zon, as Chairman of BKSAP DPR RI said that the IPPP event aims to strengthen peace and better understanding between nations.

“Using the theme Partnership for Prosperity, Regional Connectivity and Inclusive Government, reflects our collective aim to carry out dialogue and collaboration, and create a better future for countries in the Region,” said Fadli Zon.

As a member of the DPR RI, he continued, his party plays an important role in shaping the future of the Indonesian state and ensuring that the policies formed can be effective.

“The 2nd IPPP Session explored the potential for collaboration in the fields of government, culture and security, including the use of renewable energy to overcome climate change and ensure human rights policies continue to operate,” added Fadli.

The presence of the delegates demonstrated friendship and solidarity as fellow nations in the region, as well as providing an opportunity to formulate innovative policies at the 2nd IPPP Session.

This event is also proof of Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its role in the Indo-Pacific region.
