Appreciate the Continuation of the Legal Process for KST Papua Members

47

Members of the Papuan Separatist and Terrorist Group (KST) led by Egianus Kogoya were caught and caught supplying senpi (firearms). The legal process against them continues. KST members can be exposed to articles regarding illegal firearms as well as cases of state betrayal. Firmness towards KST members must be carried out as a deterrent effect, so that Egianus Kogoya cs does not dare to attack the Papuan people anymore.

So far, the Papuan people have been burdened by the existence of KST, which has continuously disturbed their security. KST reasoned that they wanted to become independent, even though the indigenous Papuan people themselves are very nationalist and don’t want to join in the defection. However, KST always throw tantrums and they use firearms as a tool to attack civilians and security forces.

On April 5, 2023 the security forces managed to arrest YL and MM who were members of the KST led by Egianus Kogoya. They were arrested at Camp Simal, Kenyam District, Nduga Regency, Papua. From the results of the arrests, evidence was obtained, including 3 firearms, 1 air rifle, 360 millimeter caliber ammunition, and 1 grenade.

The case of possession of firearms by 2 of Egianus Kogoya’s men continued. The Head of the Peaceful Cartenz Task Force, Kombes Faizal Ramadhani, stated that on August 4, 2023, YL and MM were handed over to the Wamena District Attorney. During the process of surrendering the suspects, the Cartenz Peace Task Force handed over evidence in the form of firearms, pistols, throwing weapons, grenades, etc.

YL and MM were named as suspects in the case of illegal firearms possession. They are Egianus Kogoya’s men whose job is to look for logistics, not only food ingredients but also illegal firearms. Currently they are in a class IIB penitentiary.

The legal process against YL and MM must be continued in order to create justice in Papua, and throughout Indonesia. Even though MM has the status of (former) Head of the Kenyam District, that doesn’t mean he’s above the law. Precisely MM must be held accountable for its mistakes, and it is very embarrassing because it failed to set a good example to its citizens.

YL’s legal process continues because this is not the first time he has been involved in a case. Previously he had been involved in the burning of an airplane and the kidnapping of a Susi Air pilot (Capt. Phillips M). YL could be hit with multiple articles and get a more severe sentence.

The penalties for supplying illegal firearms to KST are very severe. According to the Emergency Law of 1951, Article 1 paragraph 1, the punishment is life imprisonment or death penalty.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian stated that those who were caught smuggling, giving/buying illegal weapons to the rebels, the harshest punishment was death. This is the most severe punishment, and is expected to provide a deterrent effect.

Giving the death penalty does not mean violating human rights (HAM). The judge must have considered why he gave that sentence. In fact, KST has committed human rights violations by attacking Papuans, kidnapping pilots, and endangering the lives of many people. Therefore KST members could get the most severe punishment.

When MM is punished, it is hoped that it will have a deterrent effect so that residents in Kenyam District do not repeat their mistakes, and they understand that supporting KST is wrong because they are tantamount to being traitors to the state.

Meanwhile, when MM was arrested and imprisoned, it served as a warning to district heads or other officials in Papua. Never help KST in any way, let alone provide financial support or smuggle weapons. If they are reckless then they will be caught and get severe punishment.

The Papuan people are greatly disadvantaged by the existence of KST. Therefore they fully support firm action against KST so that Papua remains safe without any attacks. Don’t let Papuans be scared because of the actions of KST, who are determined to shoot civilians and security forces.

When there is an operation to arrest KST members, the community supports 100%. They don’t mind it, because even though KST is both Papuan, his behavior has harmed civilians in Cendrawasih Land. They also damage public facilities and make people afraid and feel uncomfortable when doing activities outside the home.

The community also supports when the apparatus takes decisive, measured action against KST members. The reason is, they are already on the wanted list, so it is only natural that bullet vomit is launched. Not only to immobilize the legs but also other parts.

The legal process for 2 KST members led by Egianus Kogoya continues. They have been proven to be suppliers of illegal firearms and are troubling the community. When KST members are arrested and imprisoned, the Papuan people are grateful for the hard work of the security forces.
