Jakarta – The Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 has been successfully held, marking a significant milestone in the global effort towards sustainable development. The forum, held on 5-6 September 2024, brought together more than 8,000 participants from various sectors and highlighted five main pillars, namely the green economy, energy transition, nature and biodiversity conservation, sustainable lifestyles, and the marine economy.
Carrying the theme “Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Growth”, a number of global figures attended as keynote speakers at ISF 2024, including Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Singapore’s Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean, Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, and China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology Jin Zuanglong.
In his opening speech, Jokowi emphasized that climate change will never be resolved as long as an economic approach is used.
“What I want to emphasize is that the problem of climate change will never be resolved as long as the world uses an economic approach, as long as the world only calculates its own profits and as long as the world only cares about its own ego,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi said that to resolve this problem, a collaborative and humane approach is needed so that no ordinary people become victims.
“Because the green economy is not only about environmental protection, not only that but also about how to create prosperity for the people, sustainable prosperity for the people,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi also emphasized Indonesia’s role and commitment to achieving net zero emissions for a greener world. He explained Indonesia’s green energy potential which reaches more than 3,600 gigawatts.
On the same occasion, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the 2024 ISF was one of the efforts to realize the world’s energy transition agenda.
“I believe that ISF 2024 is not only a discussion that addresses the challenges of climate change, but also a platform for innovation, collaboration and hope to realize sustainable progress,” said Minister Luhut.
Through the ISF event, he added, the Indonesian Government confirmed its commitment to realizing joint collaboration so that the greenhouse gas effect and decarbonization (Net Zero Emissions/NZE) can be realized.
“Indonesia has proven that developing countries can also encourage the advancement of energy transition,” concluded Luhut.
