SURABAYA – The National Police through the East Java Regional Police have succeeded in dismantling an online gambling syndicate operating in an international network, revealing illegal practices that have caused huge losses to the Indonesian people.

The East Java Regional Police’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) team successfully identified and arrested a number of suspects involved in this cross-country online gambling activity. The action of exposing this syndicate is the result of in-depth investigations and hard work by the police in combating cybercrime.

In the operation that took place over the past two weeks, the police managed to secure seven suspects who are suspected of being operators and agents in this international online gambling syndicate. In addition, the police also confiscated a number of pieces of evidence in the form of electronic devices, bank accounts, and funds estimated to reach billions of rupiah.

The East Java Regional Police revealed that the syndicate also used a network of connections between countries involving individuals from various parts of the world, including Malaysia, Singapore, and China. This success is clear evidence that online gambling syndicates are not only financially detrimental, but also ensnare many victims into a cycle of addiction and other criminal acts.

East Java Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Imam Sugianto said that this disclosure was a major effort by the police to eradicate online gambling which continues to grow rapidly.

“This online gambling syndicate is very detrimental to society, both financially and morally. The East Java Regional Police will continue to be committed to eradicating all forms of cybercrime that damage people’s lives, especially those related to illegal gambling,” said the Regional Police Chief.

This success is not only an achievement for the police, but also a warning to the public to be more vigilant against the threat of online gambling which is increasingly rampant. The East Java Regional Police appealed to the public not to get caught up in this illegal activity and to immediately report if they know of online gambling practices in their environment.

As a follow-up step, the East Java Regional Police will continue to work with related parties, both national and international, to eradicate online gambling syndicates and other crime networks that damage the social order in Indonesia.
