Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto said that regional leaders elected in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections must be able to unite all elements of society, including those who do not support them.

According to Prabowo, victory in a political contest must be a momentum to serve the people comprehensively and fairly.

“Whoever the people choose, that is the best. In a contest, winning and losing is common. The loser must be resigned and the winner must embrace. Most importantly, the winner must be a leader for all in serving the people,” Prabowo said when met by reporters in Jakarta.

The statement was also agreed by the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, who hopes that the elected regional heads can carry out their duties with full integrity.

Cucun appreciated the smooth implementation of the simultaneous regional elections even though there were several dynamics in a number of regions.

“We are grateful that the implementation of the 2024 simultaneous regional elections has gone well. Hopefully, the elected regional head candidates can work with integrity after being inaugurated,” said Cucun.

He emphasized the importance of inclusive leadership, where regional heads not only pay attention to their supporters, but also to the entire community without discrimination.

“Of course this includes those who did not vote for them. When they have been appointed as regional heads, the candidate pair must become leaders of all the people in their region, not just for their supporters,” he explained.

Cucun also reminded the elected regional heads to fulfill their campaign promises, while understanding that victory in the election is only the beginning of a big task.

“Victory at the TPS is only the beginning of a big task to answer the needs of the community with real work. The elected leader is expected to be able to lead with integrity and bring real benefits to the people and their region,” he said.

He also emphasized the need for policies that encourage increased public welfare in various fields, such as health, education, economy, and socio-culture.

“So that the gap can be overcome, the people’s economy can be maintained, and the unemployment rate can be suppressed with supportive policies,” added Cucun.

Meanwhile, Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Riyono, emphasized the importance of making Pancasila and national values a guide for elected leaders.

“Regional elections are not only an event to elect regional leaders, but also a momentum to strengthen national unity and strengthen democratic values,” he explained.

Riyono reminded that the values of Pancasila must continue to be the basis for every decision, especially after the implementation of the simultaneous regional elections.

“The values of Pancasila must continue to be maintained. Pancasila must be the basis for every step and decision in the Simultaneous Regional Elections,” he concluded.
