CIDISS – Fidelis Ari Sudarwoto, a resident of West Kalimantan, was arrested by BNNP of Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan some time ago. He was arrested for possessing or planting 39 marijuana trees. The reason is, Fidelis uses marijuana for his wife’s treatment.

Fidelis himself was negative when tested for drug cases. But Fidelis remains in the process of law. And now, he has been convicted by the judges.

Although the case become controversial, and many people are giving support for the freedom of Fidelis, but from the court, Fidelis has been sentenced to 8 months in prison.

The trial was held at the Sanggau District Court, West Kalimantan. In addition to the imprisonment, Fidelis is also fined IDR 1 billion. If a fine is not paid, he is liable to an additional one-month prison term.

Fidelis legal counsel, Marcelina Lin, considered the verdict dropped high enough. But Marcelina has not confirmed whether to appeal or not, leaving it completely to Fidelis.

Three charges were alleged to Fidelis. Marcelina said, namely Article 113 paragraph 2 about the export-import of drugs, which certainly not proven. Then Article 111 paragraph 2, which is planting, maintaining and so on and provide to others as set forth in Article 116 paragraph 1.
