Indonesia and Norway reach some agreements in different sectors on the Bilateral meeting held today, 14 April 2015, in the presidential office. Some of cooperation that have been agreed are in environment sector, marine and maritime sector, education and renewable energy.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in his speech says “Indonesia and Norway have very different character in geographical location, population size, and economic capacity sector. Nevertheless, both country also have similarity in upholding universal value, such as democration and the honour of human rights. This combination makes the relationship between the two countries are very close, friendly and useful.”
In that bilateral meeting also, both country have agreed to continue their cooperation in REDD+ in order to decrease carbon emission. “Norway respects Indonesia’s commitment to decrease the greenhouse gas emission for up to 26%-41% in 2020, and also some affirmative decision,” Mr. Jokowi said.
They also agreed a cooperation in illegal fishing eradiction and fish cultivation. In energy sector, they also agreed about the deep sea techno that can get oil from the deep sea, which is very important for Indonesia in the future.
Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg, says “Indonesian government has reach a lot of things today, and will be increasing by President Jokowi’s commitment in climate and forestry sector. In the future, we will have a greater cooperation in forestry sector. We see this colaboration as a very good partnership.” Norway is also waiting for further agreement with Indonesia about Asia Free Trade Area (AFTA). “We are sure this cooperation will increase Indonesia’s investment,” She added.
