For IMF-WBG 2018, BNPB with the Provincial Government of Bali holds Tabletop Exercise
CIDISS. In order to succeed the annual International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group (IMF-WBG) meeting in 2018 which will take place from September 8-14, all parties are expected to take responsibility and participate for the success of the meeting.
In his remarks Bali Provincial Secretary Dewa Made Indra at the opening of the Tabletop Exercise (TTX) event to anticipate the threat of an earthquake and tsunami in order to support the 2018 IMF-WBG Annual Meeting in Bali.
According to Dewa Made Indra, Indonesia is one of the most archipelago-prone countries. The islands in Indonesia are formed from the three world tectonic plates, namely the Australian, Pacific and Eurasian slabs that shift each other. This condition caused Indonesia to become one of the countries with high potential for earthquake and tsunami disasters. He asserted, besides that, the islands along Sumatra and Java are a series of the world’s Pacific fire ring (the ring of Pacific fire) which is the world’s most active earthquake route.
Dewa Indra added, Bali Province has high volcanic activity and earthquakes (masterplane tsunami 2012). In 1815 recorded the incidence of earthquakes in Bali claimed 10,253 lives and in 1917 more than 1,300 victims were killed. In the historical record for the tsunami itself, Bali has been hit by 2 (two) times the tsunami on a small scale (2-3 meters) due to the Sumbawa tsunami (1977) and the Banyuwangi Tsunami (1994).
He said, based on this matter the Government of Indonesia in this case BNPB together with the Bali Provincial Government held a Tablet Exercise exercise held on September 29 and 30. This Tabletop Exercise will provide an understanding of the importance of disaster response operations in an integrated command between the various agencies or institutions involved.
For this reason, in anticipating the threat of earthquakes and tsunamis as part of the security support of participants of the IMF-WBG annual activities, TTX training is needed to improve preparedness in the face of disaster threats. With this exercise can improve regional capacity and capacity in improving coordination and command when emergency response occurs.
