Jakarta – CIDISS. Provision of Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) 2018 amounting to Rp 3,645,035, -, by the Government of DKI on November 1, 2017, reaping protests and resulting in continuous labor demonstrations. Today, the mass of workers who are members of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) again demonstrated at the City Hall of DKI Jakarta and plans to continue the action to the State Palace. The demand for laborers in this action is the revocation of PP 78 on Cheap Wages, the revision of UMP DKI to Rp3.917.000, and lower the price of electricity and basic necessities.

Meanwhile, Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta, Sandiaga Uno, stated that many workers are satisfied with the determination of UMP 2018 and assess the UMP is enough to meet the needs of decent living.

“Many come to us even though they feel the struggle of their friends (who protest the UMP) is still ongoing, they say it is enough,” said Sandi in Monas, Central Jakarta, Friday (10/11/2017).

The figure of the leader who is also a businessman is judging that the UMP has been properly defined and adjusted with Government Regulation No. 78/2015 on Wages, where the inflation instrument and the growth of the regional reconstruction at that time become the reference for the determination of UMP in the next year.

Next step is how to lower the cost of living through compensation, such as food subsidies and free transportation for workers who earn salary worth with UMP.

“We feel quite and we want to know more about the decrease in the cost of living promised by PT Transjakarta and PD Pasar Jaya. So, this is what we are highlighting, “added Sandi.

Workers protest in DKI Jakarta involving labor elements from various regions is actually not without reason. The Jakarta Capital City’s UMP will become a barometer of the upper limit for other provinces. Thus, the determination of UMP of DKI Jakarta has a great influence for the interests of workers in other areas. (SA)
