In the current era of press freedom, people are flooded with information every day and face a variety of opinions, data, diverse information and sometimes even status on social media can become news. The press is expected to be able to package information positively in order to realize the optimism of the nation.
President Joko Widodo once said and hoped that all members of the press and media would contribute to building optimism, work ethics, community productivity, not vice versa.
The President gave examples of several headlines in the media that disturbed people’s minds, namely: “Indonesia Predicted to Be Destroyed”, “All Pessimists’ Targets of Economic Growth Achieved”, “Government Fails” Terror Action Will Not End Until Doomsday “, “Smoke Fog Not Overcome Riau Threatened Independence”. In fact, according to the President, there is even more sinister news, “Indonesia Will Go Bankrupt, Destroyed” The Rupiah Will Reach Rp. 15,000.
“If a title like this is continued in an era of competition like this, what emerges is pessimism, a work ethic that is not well developed. What emerges are things that are not productive, not productivity, “said President Jokowi.
In this era of competition between countries, what is needed domestically is to build trust. The President underlined that without trust, do not expect a flow of money, investment and capital into. “The trust that can build is the media, the press. Perception arises, images emerge because of the news, “Jokowi said.
Moreover, in 2020 Indonesia will face Regional Elections (Pilkada) simultaneously in various regions and other strategic momentum, togetherness and optimism are needed in building national progress.
Therefore, the media should not dissolve into issues that are not substantive and better lead to the production of opinions and positive news for the smooth running of the government program for the next 5 years and the success of national development.
Many of the advantages of this nation can be adopted in order to build optimism and confidence that our nation can become a great and influential nation in the world. The function of media control is indeed necessary especially with regard to things that are not appropriate from what should be done in building this nation by the government, but that must be based on facts and not based on hoax information. Mefia must also honestly convey the successes and achievements of the government so that the spirit of the community in contributing to building the nation’s progress is maintained. The media must also educate the public by providing literacy to the public so that the public is smart in utilizing information development and wisely using public communication tools. We need the participation of all components in the success of various national policies aimed at building the nation’s progress.
