JAKARTA – Two large mass organizations, namely Nahdaltul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah fully support the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) from October 2 to October 15, 2021. The chairman of the Jayapura City NU PC who is also a member of the Papua KONI PON XX Bintal, Muhammad Syaiful, said that the preparation for PON was 100 percent. Preparation of sports venues, health facilities as a derivative of the covid-19 pandemic to security is very mature.
“Everything has been well prepared,” said Syaiful in the Trijaya Hot Topic Evening with the theme “Welcoming PON XX Papua”, Friday (20/8).
According to Syaiful, the optimism that the XX PON will run well was initially conveyed by the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe. In a meeting with President Joko Widodo, Lukas explained that all preparations were final, Papua’s security conditions were also safe.
“This breaks the doubts of various parties who have asked for the postponement of the PON for a number of reasons. The positive impact of the Papuan Governor’s optimism is the trust of the Papuan people who say the sentence Torang Bisa is not nonsense,” he said.
He emphasized that security stability in Papua is under control. Reports or information that says Papua is not safe is not proven. If there is a small incident that occurs in Papua, according to Syaiful, it is only a normal incident and it is normal for other areas in Papua.
Syaiful explained, judging from the health side during the COVID-19 pandemic, Covid-19 cases in Papua tended to decline. Moreover, there are many cases of COVID-19 patients who have recovered. In addition, the PCR test at the border gate is also very strict in order to maintain health in Papua.
“The recovery rate from Covid-19 in Papua Province is 82 percent,” he said.
Syaiful emphasized that all elements of Papuan society strongly support PON XX. People are very enthusiastic. NU itself, since long ago has been educating Muslims to participate in the success of PON XX.
“There is a hadith of the prophet, which brings benefits to mankind. PON XX in Papua, its success has the opportunity to bring the people of Papua and Indonesia. In addition to Muslims, an educational approach is also carried out to religious leaders and traditional leaders,” he said.
Meanwhile, regarding the implementation of PON, said Syaiful, he was educating that health protocols must be maintained. So that PON XX takes place safely from Covid-19. He asked the community to collaborate in maintaining security and health in Papua so that PON runs smoothly.
The optimism of PON XX Papua was also successfully expressed by the General Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Sunanto. According to Sunanto, who is usually called Cak Nanto, PON XX is an event to present the quality of young people who are consistent in professionalism.
“Displaying capabilities so as to create competitiveness, not only in Indonesia but also at the international level,” said Cak Nanto.
Through PON XX, said Cak Nanto, the national spirit of the nation’s children will meet to strengthen the unity of the Indonesian nation.
“PON socializes that Papua is a safe place and it guarantees that Papua is part of the Republic of Indonesia. This is our home, we don’t need to be awkward. Sustain the PON that this is the goal of Indonesia, not just Papua,” he said.
