P20 Bilateral Meeting, Indonesia Invites to Strengthen Global Solidarity
Jakarta – The Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) meeting has become a space for dialogue between G20 country parliaments. In the meeting which has been opened since October 5, 2022, there was a call for strengthening global solidarity.
Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that the world is currently struggling to overcome a multidimensional crisis. Therefore, these challenges can only be overcome with a spirit of solidarity.
“We are gathered here today because the world is changing rapidly. We call it the perfect storm, which is a rapid multidimensional crisis. These security, economic and environmental challenges are delaying our efforts to accelerate recovery,” said Airlangga.
This was conveyed by Airlangga during his remarks at the bilateral meeting of the Parliamentary Forum in the Context of the G20 Parliamentary Speaker’s Summit (P20), Wednesday (5/10)
Airlangga, who represents the Government of Indonesia, reminded that countries in the world, especially the G20, can face food crises, inflation, and climate change by prioritizing solidarity.
“This challenge can only be overcome if we are united by a strong sense of humanity and solidarity. As we gather here, today the world is looking at us with the hope of bringing improvement to our constituents.”
Airlangga also appreciated the implementation of the Parliamentary Speaker’s Summit (P20). The meeting, said Airlangga, is expected to be able to provide a comprehensive solution to the issue of the global crisis, especially in the economic sector. In addition, the P20 is also expected to be a guide for countries attending the upcoming G20 Summit.
Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, encouraged all delegates of the G20 countries to collaborate in overcoming global economic turmoil.
“As the host of this year’s Parliamentary-20 (P20) implementation, the Indonesian House of Representatives is fully committed to the success of the parliament’s contribution in solving various global crises, including efforts to recover an inclusive and sustainable Covid-19 pandemic,” said Puan in her press statement.
Therefore, added Puan, multilateralism is needed to build effective collaboration between countries. With multilateralism, it is considered that it will be able to answer various problems that occur today, such as geopolitical conflicts, trade wars, and food and energy crises.
For information, the P20 was attended by the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco and the Leaders of the G20 Parliaments, including the Speaker of the British Commons, Sir Lindsay Harvey Hoyle.
