The challenge of Indonesia in the global and digital era is increasingly complex. The economic problems among the nation’s citizens are increasingly visible. On the other hand, exposure to religious radicalism is getting stronger.

Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) as a religious social organization (Jam’iyah diniyah ijtma’iyah) who upholds moderatism continues to provide solutions to the problems encircling the Indonesian nation.

The search for a solution to the economic and religious radicalism of this religion is specifically and deeply discussed in the Pre National Assembly and the Nahdlatul Ulama (Pre Munas and Konbes NU) Conference.

Chairman of the Steering Committee (SC) National Conference and Konbes NU KH Mustofa Aqil Siroj Siroj said that as known various forms of exposure to radical virus increasingly threaten the integrity of NKRI. While at the same time our economic growth trend continues to decline. In fact, by 2017 commodity prices are still weakening, and consumer spending is declining.

Religious and economic radicalism at first glance is seen as two different things. But if further explored these two things are interlinked. If the economic condition of the citizens is not strong will certainly more easily infiltrated radical virus. Conversely, if the economy is strong, it will not be exposed to radical propaganda.

Kiai Mustofa Aqil said the data show, beyond the ideological and false propaganda factors of the religious aspect, the lure of economic establishment to become the most magnet to suck the radical mass.

The ideological task of NU as an Ahlussunnah wal Jama’ah mass organization is how to continue to fortify the country from radical rongrongan, ease Pancasila, maintain the integrity of NKRI, and strengthen the economy of citizens through a number of economic empowerment programs populist.

To discuss issues of economic disparity and religious radicalism, PBNU presented a number of competent sources including Police Chief General M. Tito Karnavian, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Chairman Lakpesdam PBNU Rumadi Ahmad, and Prof. Arief Anshory Yusuf.

The event was opened directly by Rais Aam PBNU KH Ma’ruf Amin and was attended by Purwakarta Regent Dedi Mulyadi, Rais Syuriyah PWNU West Java KH Abun Bunyamin, and Chairman of West Java PWNU KH Hasan Nuri Hidayatullah.

Prevention-prevention of the spread of these ideologies is done early on by disseminating hazards at education level in both provinces, districts, subdistricts, villages as well as in every agency so that the public understands what is the danger of radicalism and terrorism. This is part of the implementation of Kesbangpol’s duty to socialize with various elements of society.
