The 2019 presidential election was held peacefully and safely. However, this five-year event is feared to cause division for the nation.
A number of religious leaders called on the community to maintain an atmosphere of peace and restraint after the April 17 2019 election. The community was also asked not to be provoked by information on social media whose sources were unclear.
Chairman of the MUI Advisory Council Din Syamsuddin asked the election organizers, namely the KPU, Bawaslu, DKPP with all of its staff to fulfill the constitutional mandate, namely that the elections be held directly, publicly, freely, confidentially, honestly and fairly (Luber Jurdil).
Din said that jurdil is very important for the next most decisive stage, which is sound calculation and determination. This is hopefully to be heard by the KPU so that it becomes a concern.
Meanwhile, PBNU Chairperson Said Aqil Siraj invited and appealed to all Indonesians to maintain wholeness and harmony wherever, whenever and in any situation.
He said, the election had proceeded peacefully peacefully, there were no significant riots. This is the success of the Indonesian people in carrying out the process of political democracy.
Said said, showing the international community, the Indonesian people who are the majority of Muslims, have carried out the democratic process carefully and wisely. Because Islam does not conflict with democracy, democracy does not conflict with Islam.
Chairperson of PGI Reverend Henriette Tabita Hutabarat Lebang added, the need to reattach if there is friction after the 2019 Election.
Reverend Henriette said, this is the time of mutual reunification, mutual peace again. In understanding the Christian faith, this Easter period is a time when everyone meditates on himself, pondering mistakes and making peace with one another. Because in Christian belief, Christ came to bring peace. We are facing a democratic agenda that has completed an important stage, there are still other stages. Let us go through everything by holding fast to the constitution. Therefore, all parties are asked to control themselves from anarchists, conflicts, and clashes which only harm all. We hope that the 2019 Election will eventually end in peace. But still suggest don’t forget honesty and justice. These are two characteristics of elections mandated by the constitution.
