Jokowi-Ma’ruf’s government immediately step on the gas to fight corruption. One of the breakthroughs is the reshuffle of directors at State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), so it is expected to be able to prevent budget leakage and increase revenue for the state.

Last November, Former Deputy Commissioner for Corruption Eradication Commission Chandra Hamzah called the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir at the Ministry of SOEs Office. On the occasion, Chandra said that Erick Thohir wanted SOE companies to be free from corruption, especially for BUMN Directors.

Chandra said, Do not let any BUMN officials involved in corruption cases again. Concretely, do not let SOEs be used as a ‘bancakan’ or be caught in a corruption case.

Therefore, Chandra was asked by Erick to give advice in the efforts to improve BUMN companies.

Chandra added, at the meeting Erick was also determined to bring some in SOEs to have asset valuations that exceeded Forbe’s richest people.

The latest news says, Erick Thohir has prepared a number of strategies to reorganize SOEs. SOEs in the future must consolidate and focus back on their core business. Too many children and grandchildren of the company must be reviewed. In addition, the plan to establish a BUMN super holding is also canceled and will be replaced with the subholding concept.

His party has also met with the top 30 SOE CEOs and BUMN commissioners to conduct a joint monthly review which was only attended by the president and the commut.

This is because the Commission is responsible for the commissioners and the CEO is responsible to the directors. He does not want when reviewing a company, directors point at each other. The easier thing is he will take off his CEO.

Another thing Erick will do is issue a Ministerial Regulation to maintain the transparency of SOEs. The tender must be transparent. Previously, there was also a bad thing when there were cases of OTT (Operation Catching Hands) on the directors of BUMN. If this is ignored, the public will be increasingly distrustful of the performance of SOEs.

Shortly after Erick was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo, he had carried out a number of breakthroughs, namely by replacing a number of directors of SOEs, to appoint Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) as Pertamina’s Commissioner. This certainly shows its seriousness in fixing the chaotic scars in SOEs.

Maybe Erick Thohir can be compared to Mrs. Susi Pudjiastuti. The difference is that Mrs. Susi sank a fishing boat, while Erick Thohir sank a corruptor who stole public money.

Jokowi chose Erick Thohir who did not have vested interests or interests that were firmly planted and could hamper change. The goal, of course, is to improve SOEs with assets of around Rp. 8,100 Trillion.

Previously, Key Performance Indicators (KPI) were the ability to generate profits for dividends and taxes to the state. In the Erick Thohir era, the main variable was precisely about Good Corporate Governance (GCG) or good corporate governance. This means that there should be no corruption and use of office for personal or group interests.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi has also ensured that the Minister of SOEs will immediately resolve the issues that surround PT Asuransi Jiwasraya, Jokowi also said, that Erick already has a strategy to deal with the problem.

Erick has also promised that Jiwasraya’s problem will be one of his main focuses as Minister of BUMN. He said the government had prepared 3 strategies to improve the liquidity of the life insurance company. One of them is forming a subsidiary, PT Jiwasraya Putra.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the BUMN Federation of Workers’ Union or FSP Arief Poyuono, gave support to SOE Minister Erick Thohir to eradicate corruption allegations at BTN with PT Batam Islan Marina (BIM).

Arief said that this had hurt tens of thousands of workers who lined up to get subsidized KPR, but by BTN the KPR was declared exhausted, after investigation it turned out that public money was as much as Rp. 300 billion.

For this case, Erick reformed the BTN boss structure. He said the restructuring of the number of commissioners and directors at BTN was carried out one of them to prevent any gaps in corruption and save operational money in the company.

All efforts and various strategies of the government in fixing SOEs, are clear evidence that the Government wants to make SOEs more efficient and free from all corrupt practices.
