Tebo Police, Jambi, visited a number of educational institutions to counteract radicalism that could lead to terrorism. Islamic boarding schools are one of the educational institutions that are often given information about the dangers of radicalism.

Head of the Tebo Police Community Development Unit, AKP Rismayardi, said that counter-radicalism counseling was carried out at the university, school and Islamic boarding schools. Even though there are no signs of intolerant and radical groups in his area, he stressed that his party will continue to launch socialization and counseling to remote districts.

Chairman of the Tebo Regency Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) M. Rifai Ahmad was actively involved in this socialization effort. Rifai confirmed that as far as the supervision had been done, no seeds of radicalism had been found in the Tebo region.

Rifai in the same place sparked, Alhamdulillah still in control, not yet there. If we have not received a report or heard an issue that appears in the community there are seeds of radicalism or terrorism.

Several ways were taken by the local MUI to prevent the growth of the seeds of radicalism. One way to do this is to carefully select the preacher or lecturer who will fill the pulpits at Tebo.

This is reflected in Rifai’s decision to reject a group of Islamic teachings which he said did not fit the Tebo community.

Rifai recalled that I had been invited from the Salafi group because I rejected the Wahabi teachings.

Khoiron, as the caretaker of Al Mubarak Islamic Boarding School, welcomed this kind of counseling from the authorities. In line with the efforts to avoid radicalism, Khoiron also applied strict rules for his santri so that they were far from foreign notions that were considered dangerous.

AKBP Don Gaspar Mikel Da Costa from the Public Relations Division of the National Police Headquarters explained that the visit to the pesantren was part of a routine effort to deradicalize the police. Don calls this kind of counseling a program that runs from police to regional police throughout Indonesia.

The Tebo Police Program routinely socializes this anti-radicalism movement. With this program, it is expected that the santri and satriwan will understand more about radicalism and its dangers so that early prevention of radicalism can be done.
