The 43rd ASEAN Summit, International Relations Observers called the Presence of Foreign Heads of State in Indonesia a Form of Commitment to World Peace
Jakarta – Observer of International Relations from Padjadjaran University, Teuku Rezasyah said, ASEAN has grown to become the best regional organization in the world. So it is also hoped that the realization of a commitment to peace in all regions, both ASEAN and its surroundings.
“There will be no more war between fellow ASEAN members. And it tends to continue to grow and develop democratically so that it is beneficial for the surrounding area,” Teuku said in an interview with Elshinta radio.
He explained that after ASEAN emerged broader organizations such as APEC, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partner, and the Indo-Pacific Region. So that ASEAN becomes a buffer in a territory outside Southeast Asia.
“Even ASEAN also contributes to peace in the surrounding region,” he said.
According to Teuku, the presence of a number of foreign heads of state at the ASEAN Summit shows that ASEAN is important, especially for East Asia, South Asia and Oceania. In fact, the ASEAN Summit meeting with a number of countries indicated that for a number of countries, ASEAN is an investment market.
In addition, he continued, the issues raised at the 43rd ASEAN Summit also include what is currently of public concern, such as the addition of a map of the South China Sea, and the disposal of Fukushima nuclear waste at sea.
“The topic will be discussed without cornering the relevant countries. Because, if the theme of the discussion on the issue is made with language that is too vulgar, the country’s delegation concerned will not want to attend or leave early,” said Teuku.
For your information, Indonesia holds the chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023, thus hosting the ASEAN High Level Conference (Summit). Previously, the 42nd ASEAN Summit was successfully held in Labuan Bajo, NTT. Currently, Jakarta is the location for the 43rd Summit.
It is hoped that after the 43rd ASEAN Summit there will be a joint communique or joint decision agreed upon by all the countries present. In addition, a commitment to peace is manifested in all regions, both ASEAN and its surroundings.
