National Sports Week (PON) is an event for the achievements of the nation’s children from various regions in showing their sports talents for the country so that they can then speak on the international stage and can bring red and white on the world podium, not only that. PON is able to be a place to promote regional areas and move the community’s economy.
The XX PON that will take place in Papua will be held in 4 regions, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke Regency and Mimika Regency.
PON is very important for Papua because it will be an added value for equitable development in Papua, as well as an increase in the community’s economy, because the success of PON is not only limited to the successful implementation but also provides the opportunity for talented nation’s children to show their best service for the Republic of Indonesia, especially in sports.
In addition, PON can also have an impact on improving the economy of the community in the villages, moreover the community can peddle souvenirs and local wisdom of Papua, as well as Papua culinary foods that can be promoted at the venue for the national stage.
President Jokowi paid great attention to the success of the national sports event through Presidential Instruction Number 10 of 2017 concerning the support of organizing the XX National Sports Week and XVI National Paralympic Year 2020 in Papua Province in order to support the smooth implementation of the PON XX in Cenderawasih Earth, as a manifestation that the Infonesia government is serious and is committed to advancing Papua in all fields.
Not only from the economic sector, and sports alone. the successful implementation of PON XX in Papua is expected to have a positive impact on Indonesia through the nation’s character that is built through sports and shows that amid the negative issues that have hit before, Papua remains peaceful, safe and advanced within the framework of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.
With the various positive impacts of organizing the PON XX in Papua, it is fitting for all elements of society including citizens in the Mayan universe to support and promote the smooth and successful violation of the PON XX in Papua, because the PON XX of 2020 in Papua is proof of the manifestation of Papua Is Indonesia, Papua Peace, Pspua Maju and Papua Great to Success in Advanced Indonesia through equal distribution of national development.
