Indonesia is a country prone to disasters and the trend continues to increase from year to year. As many as 92 percent of disasters in Indonesia are hydro-meteorological disasters.
Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Willem Rampangilei states that in 2016 there has been a disastrous 2384, this number increased from 1,732 disaster in 2015 and every year the state suffered losses of Rp 30 trillion as a result of the disaster.
The increase in disasters caused by natural factors, such as climate change and anthropogenic factors, including environmental degradation, settlements in disaster-prone areas, watersheds (DAS) critical, and urbanization.
Willem said, based on the record BNPB, as many as 148.4 million people live in areas prone to earthquakes, 5 million people in tsunami prone areas, 1.2 million residents in areas prone to volcanic eruptions, 63.7 million people in flood prone areas, and 40.9 million people live in areas prone to landslides.
In addition, there are 386 districts / cities in the danger zone earthquakes medium-high. Furthermore, there are 233 districts / cities located in tsunami prone areas, 75 districts / cities threatened by volcanic eruption, 315 districts / cities located in high-hazard areas were flooded, and 274 districts / cities in the medium-high danger of landslides.
Throughout 2016, the incidence of natural disasters in Indonesia occured in Central Java province as much as 639 times, followed by East Java with 409 disaster events, West Java 329 times, 190 times in East Kalimantan and Aceh 83 times.
Seeing the condition of Indonesia is highly vulnerable, need disaster relief or disaster management to minimize loss of life and catastrophic losses.
Willem added, the college also has an important role in disaster management, namely through a variety of research or socialization related disaster mitigation efforts to the community and to contribute to strengthening the capacity of disaster risk reduction oriented in the service of their community work in the community.
There are three main points in disaster management, distancing the public from disasters, disaster distanced from society, and live in harmony with the disaster. In this disaster required a partnership between governments, civil society and the private sector
For that, we need an early warning system against disaster and system are disseminated to the public, so that the public has been educated and able to implement disaster reduction efforts are realized in the early warning system to minimize the victim during a natural disaster.
