2023 is again a momentum for Indonesia to highlight its role and leadership in the international arena. After successfully holding the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) in May 2023, Indonesia will hold the 44th General Assembly of the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Jakarta.
AIPA was born from the desire of legislators from ASEAN countries to grow a common understanding in assisting and encouraging closer cooperation. Including to bridge the problem solving that occurred in ASEAN countries. There are 500 participants who will attend the 44th AIPA General Assembly in Jakarta on 5-11 August 2023, including delegates from 10 ASEAN countries. In addition, representatives from 20 observer countries and representatives from 12 international organizations were also present.
The Head of the Regional Cooperation Desk of the DPR RI’s Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Putu Supadma Rudana said that his party would show Indonesia’s leadership in ASEAN at the 44th General Assembly of AIPA. The BKSAP DPR itself has started a series of activities for the 44th AIPA General Session at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Central Jakarta on Friday (28/7/2023). The activity, entitled run and ride, is part of a series of events to welcome the cross-country parliamentary meeting in ASEAN.
Putu Supadma said the 44th AIPA General Assembly was a momentum to show that Indonesia is very capable of leading the region and providing inspiration and motivation for ASEAN countries. He argued that the AIPA General Assembly was a rare moment as well as a valuable moment for the DPR and Indonesia. Especially to strengthen the role of parliamentary diplomacy amidst the emergence of various regional challenges.
With the theme Responsive Parliament for a Stable and Prosperous ASEAN , Indonesia emphasizes the importance of the green economy concept . This theme was chosen because the world tends to regard economic growth as the only positive benchmark, in which GDP ( Gross Domestic Product ) is the sole reference, so it often forgets about the green economy aspect.
The application of this green economy concept is for the welfare of the ASEAN region. Communities in the ASEAN region are expected to receive inclusive support in improving the economy. In addition, the AIPA General Assembly in Jakarta also has the goal of maintaining peace and stability in the ASEAN region.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of BKSAP DPR RI Gilang Dhielafararez explained, the 44th AIPA General Assembly is the task of Indonesia’s chairmanship at this year’s AIPA and the DPR RI is committed to providing the best as host. He also asked all Indonesian people to participate in the success of the event by enlivening it through social media.
It is said, the DPR RI has held a series of activities ahead of the 44th AIPA General Assembly, such as the AIPA-ASEAN Preparatory Meeting which was held in Labuan Bajo, NTT, to support Indonesia’s chairmanship at the 42nd ASEAN Summit. In addition, the 6th Session of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs (AIPACODD) on 3-31 May 2023 in Bogor, West Java, and the Coordinating Committee of Women Parliamentarians of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (WAIPA) Session in Padang , West Sumatra, last June.
There is no need to doubt Indonesia’s leadership in organizing international events. Taji Indonesia as a global leader will stand out even more with the success of the 44th AIPA General Assembly and the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta in September. For this reason, the participation and support of all parties is needed so that international standard events can be carried out successfully and safely.
