CIDISS – Board of Quarantine of Agriculture Animal and Plant Tarakan increase the surveillance to the illegal beef to Tarakan. This monitor is worked together by other agencies, such as customs, TNI (army) and Police.

India beef branded Alana allegedly smuggled from Malaysia to Indonesia border entry at Tarakan, North Kalimantan. The illegal meat was entry into Indonesia territory without official documents and letters issued by Customs Offices and Animal Quarantine.

Alana beef actually entry in the market in Malaysia and around it. After that, the beef is smuggled into Indonesia through Tarakan via illegal route Indonesia – Malaysia.

Then, government of Tarakan, and his parties increase the monitor in the border about smuggled beef. As the result, they have seized around 1.5 tons illegal Alana beef from Malaysia in a month.

The head of board of Quarantine of Agriculture Animal and Plant, Class II Tarakan, Amril explained that near of Idul Adha day (sacrifice day of Islam), his party will be more monitor in the Malundung harbor until small pier.

“The suspects often using boat to smuggled the beef (illegal Alana beef),” said him as quoted in Bulungan Post.

He explained, by the law no 16 year 1992 stated that every things might carry disease of animal and plants must be completed by health certificate of quarantine from original country. Then, the things must entry to official harbor and report to official.

Amril assumed that Alana beef is suspected containing foot and mouth disease. Then it will be very dangerous for whom consuming it.
