Government Committed to Taking Action on Online Gambling Admin Vacancies on the Internet
Jakarta – The government through the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) has demonstrated its commitment to cracking down on fraudulent practices related to job vacancies that lead to online gambling admin positions.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower, Anwar Sanusi, said that online gambling operators always find new ways to utilize digital platforms in carrying out their activities, including for job recruitment.
“We are very concerned about this incident. There are always ways for online gambling operators to take advantage of every digital platform available,” he said.
This was conveyed after a netizen revealed an experience regarding a job vacancy advertisement for a Customer Service position which turned out to result in recruitment for an online gambling admin position.
Anwar added that the Ministry of Manpower is now working with law enforcement officials to follow up on the case.
“The Ministry of Manpower team is investigating this case. There have been several reports received with a similar mode that utilizes job advertisements available on job portals, asking for identity and cellphone or WA numbers. And giving offers, enticements and big benefits,” he explained.
The Ministry of Manpower, he added, will also hand over this case to the police if criminal elements are found.
“If there are criminal elements, of course we will hand it over to law enforcement officers,” he explained.
The Ministry of Manpower has appealed to job vacancy portal managers to be more vigilant against the risk of fake job vacancies, including those suspected of being related to online gambling.
“In addition, the Ministry of Manpower urges job seekers to be careful and precise in responding to emails and all forms of communication in the recruitment process,” said Anwar.
Separately, Adham Somantrie, Head of Social & PR Indonesia Jobstreet by SEEK, revealed that the job advertisement in question had been deactivated after receiving the report.
“We have also deactivated the Trend Network Technology Sdn Bhd company account because Trend Network Technology Sdn Bhd did not respond to our clarification efforts,” Adham explained.
Jobstreet initially found no indication of violation in the advertisement, because the description of the Customer Service Executive vacancy that was displayed did not indicate any problems.
Adham added that new problems arose at the next recruitment stage, which was carried out directly by companies outside the Jobstreet platform.
“We really appreciate reports from users if they find anything suspicious,” he said,
Adham advised that users, both job seekers and companies, can send reports via email to customerservice-id@seek.com ; or call +62 21-8082 5888 Monday-Friday, 8.30-17.30.
