Nusa Dua – The Chairperson of the People’s Consultative Assembly or the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Indonesian parliament and African countries. This was conveyed in the opening speech of the Indonesia Africa Parliamentary Forum 2024 as part of the Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF) 2024 series.

In her speech, Puan emphasized that this cooperation will not only strengthen relations between countries but will also serve as a platform to promote economic development, renewable energy, food security, and the role of women in the economic and political sectors.

“We can collaborate on the development of the renewable energy economy, enhance food security, and promote economic development. Additionally, we must also work together to increase women’s participation in the economic and political sectors,” said Puan Maharani in Bali on Sunday (September 1).

“Women can play a larger role in society, both in Africa, Indonesia, and the world,” he added.

The speaker also emphasized the importance of democratic values in the context of inter-parliamentary cooperation. According to her, parliaments must be able to strengthen the relationships between African countries and Indonesia through constructive and inclusive dialogue.

“In the context of inter-parliamentary cooperation, we must advance democratic values. I believe that in the relationship between African countries and Indonesia, these values will be achieved if parliaments can strengthen dialogue in resolving issues,” he emphasized.

In addition, Puan also urged the representatives from both areas to prioritize mutually beneficial cooperation.

“Determining a country’s policy is a choice, whether we will promote mutually beneficial cooperation or one that only benefits one party,” he explained. The speaker emphasized that cooperation between parliaments can serve as an important bridge in strengthening relationships among communities.

At the end of her speech, Puan reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for the aspirations of the people through this platform. “I invite all of us to voice the aspirations of the people we represent, whether in Africa, Indonesia, or around the world,” she stated.

Puan Maharani hopes that the Indonesia-Africa Parliament Forum can produce concrete steps for a better future for both regions.

“Thank you, and let’s continue the collaboration that we have built together,” he concluded.
