Papua, as part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), holds a significant strategic position in efforts to strengthen national identity. The abundant natural wealth, cultural diversity, and its role in Indonesia’s geopolitical landscape make Papua more than just a province at the eastern tip of Indonesia.
Papua is a reflection of pluralism and the strength of the nation in facing global challenges. Therefore, efforts to build and develop Papua are not only important for the region itself but also for Indonesia as a whole.
The importance of development in Papua is not just about infrastructure or the economy, but also about how we strengthen the social and cultural ties that unite Papua with all of Indonesia.
With all its potential, Papua is capable of becoming a driving force for a stronger and more inclusive national identity. Why? Because Papua is a symbol of diversity within unity, a miniature Indonesia that reflects how rich and complex this country is.
Papua cannot be underestimated. As emphasized by the Head of the Manpower, Transmigration, Energy, and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Office of Central Papua Province, Frets James Boray, the role of the Job Training Center (BLK) in Papua is a crucial part of efforts to prepare the local community for the workforce. The BLK is not just a training place, but also an important means to build the competencies and skills of the Papuan people. This is the first step towards a more advanced and competitive Papua, which will ultimately contribute to the strengthening of national identity.
Central Papua, for example, is in the process of building a new vocational training center in Karadiri Village, Wanggar District, Nabire. This development is not just a physical project, but also an investment in human resources.
With the establishment of the BLK, the people of Central Papua are expected to acquire the skills needed to compete in the job market, both in the public and private sectors. This is part of an effort to reduce unemployment rates and improve the welfare of the community, which will ultimately strengthen Papua’s position within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
However, the development of this vocational training center was not carried out without careful planning. Frets James Boray emphasized that this development refers to strict regulations, including the Minister of Manpower Regulation Number 8 of 2017 concerning the Standards for Vocational Training Centers.
The BLK in Central Papua must meet various requirements, such as having a minimum land area of 2 hectares, environmental impact analysis documents, as well as adequate instructors and training staff. With good planning, Papua will be increasingly ready to play a role in strengthening national identity through inclusive and sustainable development.
More than just building infrastructure, Papua must also become a safe and peaceful region. The role of the community in creating peace in Papua cannot be overlooked. Young Papua figure, Ali Kabiay, stated that the community has a significant responsibility in maintaining Papua as a land of peace.
One way to do this is by sharing positive information about Papua through social media. Papua is often portrayed as a region full of conflict, but in reality, many communities live peacefully despite coming from different ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Papua also has great economic potential if the security situation can be maintained. By attracting more foreign investors, Papua can create more job opportunities and accelerate infrastructure development.
However, this can only be realized if the image of Papua as a safe and peaceful region continues to be maintained. Therefore, the people of Papua and all of Indonesia must work together to maintain stability in this region.
In addition, a non-violent approach to resolving conflicts in Papua should also be a priority. Ismail Sirfefa, a senior figure from West Papua, emphasized the importance of dialogue and deliberation as a means to mitigate conflict.

Violence will only prolong the problems and hinder the development of Papua. On the contrary, dialogue and social approaches could be a more effective solution for creating lasting peace in Papua.
With the easing of conflict and the creation of stability, Papua will become a region that is more welcoming to foreign investors and safer for its citizens. The role of the community in maintaining peace in Papua is not only important for the region but also for all of Indonesia.
Papua is a part of the national identity, and Papua’s success in maintaining peace and progress will reflect Indonesia’s success in building a just and prosperous nation for all its citizens.
Papua, with all its potential, plays an important role in strengthening national identity. From an economic, social, and cultural perspective, Papua is an inseparable part of Indonesia. Development in Papua must be continuously encouraged, not only through infrastructure development but also by building quality human resources.
Thus, Papua will not only become part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, but it will also become one of the main pillars in strengthening Indonesia’s national identity. Papua is a part of us, and Papua’s success is Indonesia’s success. Let’s take care of Papua, let’s build Papua, because Papua is our strength in reinforcing national identity.
