JAKARTA – In order to maintain stability and peace after the 2024 Pilkada voting, security forces from various regions in Indonesia have called on the public to use social media wisely and responsibly. This is important considering the potential for the spread of hoaxes and provocations that can trigger tensions after the democratic party.
Maros Police Chief, AKBP Douglas Mahendrajaya, conveyed a message to the public to continue to maintain the security and public order (kamtibmas) situation in their respective environments.
“Security issues are our shared responsibility. Choices may differ, but after the results are announced, we will unite again as peace-loving Maros residents,” he said.
He also reminded the public to be careful of information that is not clear on social media.
“Use social media wisely and always check the truth of information before spreading it. Hoaxes will only divide us,” said Douglas.
In line with this, Kendari Police Chief Kombes Pol. Aris Tri Yunarko also emphasized the importance of maintaining social media ethics. He asked the public to avoid hate speech and provocations that could create unrest.
“Social media should be a space for sharing inspiration, not a means of spreading hatred. Let’s work together to maintain peace in our beloved Kendari City,” said Aris.
In addition, legal action against violations such as defamation on social media will also be processed according to the provisions.
“Don’t let comments or uploads on social media have legal consequences. Be wise in using this platform,” said Kombes Aris.
In Aceh, the Commander of the Iskandar Muda Military Command, Major General TNI Niko Fahrizal, invited the public to be wise in using social media in sensitive situations after the Pilkada. It is important to verify information before spreading it in order to maintain integrity and stability.
“Social media must be a means of education and development, not a tool to spread hatred or divide,” he said.
The Pangdam also reminded the public to remain patient in waiting for the official results from the General Election Commission (KPU) and to accept democratic decisions with an open heart.
“The spirit of unity must be our main priority for the sustainability of development in Aceh,” added Niko.
The Grobogan Police Chief, AKBP Dedy Anung Kurniawan, said that his party was conducting a direct approach to the community through a cooling system program, namely visiting residents and patrols to create a sense of security. This activity aims to reduce tensions after the Pilkada.
“Differences in choice are common in democracy. However, maintaining harmony is a shared responsibility. Avoid spreading information that is not clear about its truth. Social media should strengthen unity, not be a source of unrest,” concluded Dedy.
