Kendari – Used Cloth (Rombengan/RB) trader by citizens of Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, always in demand by consumers of economic communities from low to high, although RB is illegal goods.

Rombengan from abroad is being debated because of the Department of Industry and Trade of the local government declared that RB is illegal, otherwise the security officer and businessmen said that RB is legal and even have an official permit to trade them.

Rusmin, a people who living near the Port Lapuko, Konsel, testified that the amount of RB were unloaded at the port could be hundreds of bales every month, and then loaded into a large truck to be taken to the city of Kendari and several counties in the Southeast Sulawesi.

“Based on my knowledge, RB clothes came from Wanci, Wakatobi which is then supplied to a number of ports in the country, including the port Lapuko,” said Rusmin.

Besides that, Samson Bahri, Chief of Investigations and Enforcement Customs Kendari (P2 Bea Cukai) stated that the used clothing trade activity is illegal, because if we based on the formal procedures of foreign goods into the country, must be a new item.

Used clothing, hereinafter referred to as RB is also potentially spread disease and cause market disruption to domestic-made clothing. So, selling RB must be stopped.
