2nd IPPP Officially Closed; Affirm Commitment to Rejecting Disinformation Regarding Papua
Jakarta – Indonesia – The 2nd Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) officially closed on July 25 2024. The parliamentary delegates from Pacific countries who attended the forum emphasized their joint commitment to reject disinformation related to Papua and strengthen cooperation in conveying accurate information and responsible.
“Papua is an integral part of Indonesia and we are committed to maintaining the stability and welfare of the people there. Disinformation circulating can undermine development efforts and create distrust. Therefore, we must work together to ensure accurate and responsible information is conveyed to the international community.” The Chairman of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, emphasized this
Puan Maharani also emphasized the importance of transparency and open dialogue, “We need to build transparent and open communication, both within the country and with friendly countries in the Pacific. Only then can we prevent the spread of misleading and detrimental information.”
“The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) fully supports Indonesia’s commitment to handling issues in Papua in a peaceful and fair manner. We also oppose all forms of disinformation that could disrupt stability in the region. “It is important for us all to stand together to fight false narratives and ensure that truth is a top priority,” said MSG Director General, Leonard Louma Obe.
Leonard Louma Obe emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in tackling disinformation, “Cooperation between Pacific countries is essential to countering disinformation. By sharing accurate information and working together on platforms like IPPP, we can strengthen relations between countries and create a healthy and constructive information environment.”
The 2nd IPPP Forum has produced various agreements and action plans that will form the basis for further cooperation among Pacific countries. It is hoped that the joint commitment to reject disinformation related to Papua can strengthen regional stability and support sustainable development in this region.
