Authorities Successfully Paralyze Three OPM Members

NEWS FROM THE EAST – Three people suspected of being OPM members were killed in an ambush that occurred on Tuesday 16/7/2024 at around 19.45 WIT. Kapendam XVII/Cenderawasih Lieutenant Colonel Inf Candra Kurniawan said that the Free Papua Organization (OPM) gang in the Puncak Jaya Regency area, Central Papua Province was successfully neutralized by personnel from the Yonif RK 753/AVT Task Force on Tuesday, July 16 2024 at around 19.45 WIT.

Groups that often cause trouble burn down public facilities and infrastructure belonging to residents. They often terrorize civilians and TNI-Polri officers.

“When they were about to be arrested, they resisted by opening fire at the security forces,” said Lt. Col. Candra’s written statement.

Candra further explained that the action against the OPM gang began with the detection of one OPM member named Teranus Enumbi and several of his members entering a residential area in Karubate Village, Muara District carrying firearms.

“This gang was very cruel, attacking and killing civilians, while Teranus Enumbi managed to escape,” said Lt. Col. Candra in a written statement Wednesday 17/7/2024.

The three OPM members have the initials SW (33), YW (41), and DW (36). This group is from the OPM Teranus Enumbi gang which is known for being very cruel in shooting and attacking civilians. During the raid, security forces succeeded in confiscating 1 Morning Star flag and 1 homemade pistol.

Teranus Enumbi is on the Police’s Wanted List (DPO) related to the crime of attacking security forces in 2018.

June 19 2024, attacked and shot motorbike taxi driver An Husen (39).
May 31 2024, attacked and shot civilians Prasetyo (33).
May 30 2024, attacked and shot motorcycle taxi driver an Jainul (44).
March 19 2024, attacked, shot and slashed 2 security officers, Sertu Ismunandar and Serka Salim.
In fact, the Teranus group has a track record of many criminal acts in Papua.
