Jakarta – The Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), Police General (ret.) Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan, has again been entrusted to lead the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PB ESI) for the 2024-2029 period. This decision was announced after the PB ESI National Sports Conference on Sunday (6/10).
In his speech, Budi Gunawan expressed his gratitude for the trust. “I am committed to bringing PB ESI to a higher level,” he said. During the previous period, Budi Gunawan has recorded various achievements, such as leading the Indonesian E-sports team to become the overall champion of the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia with 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals in the esports branch.
In addition, PB ESI under his leadership also made a proud achievement in the implementation of PON Aceh-Sumut 2024 which competed in esports as one of the official sports. This achievement strengthens Indonesia’s position on the international esports stage and is proof of PB ESI’s commitment to fostering national esports talent.
Hamka Hendra Noer, Expert Staff of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, expressed his appreciation for Budi Gunawan’s achievements. He hopes that Budi Gunawan’s leadership can continue to produce brilliant achievements for Indonesia in the field of esports. He highlighted the significant progress made in introducing esports as a recognized sport at the national and international levels. By continuing to encourage innovation and coaching, Budi Gunawan’s leadership is expected to further strengthen Indonesia’s position as one of the main forces in the global esports world.
In addition, PB ESI under the leadership of Budi Gunawan has also succeeded in forming the Garudaku Esport Academy, which is a forum for coaching and developing esports talent in Indonesia. This academy has produced many high-achieving athletes, strengthened the regeneration of young players, and prepared Indonesia to continue competing in international competitions. Training for esports referees is also one of the leading programs that ensures the sustainability of the quality of competition in various national and international esports events.
With the various achievements that have been achieved, PB ESI under the leadership of Budi Gunawan is expected to continue to encourage the growth of esports and make Indonesia’s name shine even brighter on the international stage.
