Closing the 2nd IPPP Session, Puan Invites the Pacific Regional Parliament to Increase its Commitment to Blue Economic Cooperation
Jakarta – The 2nd Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) which took place in Jakarta officially closed successfully.
Puan Maharani as Chair of the DPR RI invited the delegates to increase cooperation in implementing the Blue Economy, in order to face a number of threats such as the issue of climate change and global warming.
“We see big threats such as climate change that must be faced by Pacific countries. Parliament must be at the forefront. “In this case, the DPR of the Republic of Indonesia has made a major contribution in mobilizing concrete actions by parliaments in various countries, such as those proposed at the 144th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) assembly meeting in 2022 to overcome global warming,” said Puan.
Today’s meeting is also related to discussing the huge maritime potential in the Pacific, so Parliament must place the blue economy as a priority, which is still under development, but Indonesia is committed to sharing knowledge and experience through training programs for parliamentary partners in the Pacific.
This statement regarding blue economy cooperation is also in line with the Chairman of the DPR RI Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Fadli Zon, who explained that the DPR RI BKSAP pays attention to the development of the blue economy by focusing on community welfare so that it has an impact on improving human resource skills and sustainable use of natural resources.
“Focus is also placed on the potential for regional connectivity in the Pacific and inclusive development in the future. “This discussion covers various aspects of the blue economy and the potential for cooperation between Indonesia and Pacific countries,” said Fadli
Puan also reaffirmed the DPR RI’s commitment to placing the parliaments of Pacific Countries as Main Partners for more intensive consultation and dialogue both in Jakarta and in other international forums, especially with parliaments from Pacific countries.
“The recommendations that have been agreed in Jakarta at this time must be brought to our respective countries and to the meeting room to our parliament building and I invite Pacific countries to tell the people of their countries that Indonesia wants to increase friendship with the people of the Pacific,” said Mrs.
In her closing speech, Puan Maharani expressed her deepest gratitude to all parties who had contributed to the successful implementation of the 2nd IPPP.
“We really appreciate the enthusiasm and active participation of all delegates. “Through this forum, we have succeeded in strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation in the Pacific region and opening up new opportunities to improve people’s welfare,” he said.
