Encouraging the Active Role of Political Parties as Part of the Socialization to Successfully Implement Regional Elections

By : Lukman Keenan Adar )*

Encouraging the active participation of political parties (parpol) in every stage of election outreach is not just a formality call, but an important invitation to ensure the success of holding elections that are safe, honest and fair.

When political parties take an active role, they not only contribute to the smooth running of the democratic process, but also build public trust in the integrity of the elections themselves. This participation is crucial, considering the complexity of regulations and stages that must be well understood by all parties.

Chairman of the Boven Digoel Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), Bernard Warumap, has emphasized the importance of political party involvement in every socialization process held by the Regional General Election Commission (KPUD). This appeal is not just a formality, but a serious invitation for political parties to take a bigger role in ensuring the implementation of elections smoothly and according to the rules.

Why is this important? Because the success of the regional elections is not only determined by the technical preparation of the KPUD, but also by the active participation of all elements, including political parties. The socialization carried out by the KPUD is an important moment where political parties can deepen their understanding of the rules and stages of nomination. This is important to minimize misunderstandings which can lead to conflicts or disputes in the future.

Chairman of Bawaslu Boven Digoel, Bernard Warumap, noted that the low participation of political parties in socialization activities was an irony. How is it possible that political parties, which are supposed to be the driving force of democracy, are actually absent from the important forums they are supposed to attend? Bernard emphasized that the support and active participation of political parties is very necessary to ensure that the 2024 Pilkada runs safely, honestly and fairly. Without maximum involvement from political parties, the dream of an ideal democratic party in Boven Digoel could be disrupted.

On the other hand, a similar situation also occurred in Mahakam Ulu (Mahulu) Regency, where the local Bawaslu, through its commissioner Indra Parda Manurung, also reminded political parties of the importance of their involvement in monitoring the results of updating the voter list.

Political parties are asked not only to focus on the nomination stages, but must also take part in overseeing every process of updating voter data. Accurate voter data is the foundation for legitimate elections, and political parties have an important role in ensuring that this data is correct.

The stages of updating voter data, which are carried out in stages from village to district level, are a process that requires close supervision. Indra emphasized that the participation of political parties in plenaries held to validate voter data is very crucial.

Each political party has an obligation to check and correct existing data, especially if Ineligible Voter (TMS) data is found. If political parties are not active at this stage, they will lose the opportunity to ensure valid voter data, which in turn can influence the results of the election itself.

Experience from previous regional elections shows that the problem of voter data is not trivial. The KPU and Bawaslu Mahulu often find voter data that needs to be revised or corrected.

If political parties do not take an active role in this process, the expected quality of the elections could be disrupted. Therefore, it is important for political parties to not only be present, but also active in every stage of updating voter data.

On the other hand, the Chairman of the Mahulu KPU, Paulus Winarno Hendratmukti, emphasized that the stage of updating voter data will continue until the end of September. There is still time for political parties and the public to provide input and responses to existing data. Every input provided will be very valuable in ensuring that all citizens who have the right to vote can be properly accommodated.

Of course, the active role of political parties does not only stop at disseminating and monitoring voter data. Political parties must also be able to become effective information agents in society. They must be able to explain to their constituents the importance of each stage of the election, from nomination to voting.

Political parties must be a bridge that connects the KPUD and the community, ensuring that the information conveyed by the KPUD can be received and well understood by the wider community.

In this context, the socialization held by the KPUD should not be considered as an additional burden for political parties, but rather as a golden opportunity to prove their commitment to the democratic process. This socialization is an arena where political parties can show that they are not just participants in elections, but also as pioneers in creating quality elections.

In seeking the success of holding regional elections, the active role of political parties (political parties) is an element that cannot be ignored. When political parties are actively involved in every stage of socialization, they not only carry out their political obligations, but also participate in maintaining the fairness and transparency of the election process.

Effective socialization will not only strengthen understanding of the regional election rules and stages, but also build public trust in the democratic process itself.

Apart from that, political parties’ participation in the socialization process also reflects their commitment to a healthy democratic process. In this way, regional elections are not only an arena for power struggles, but also a means of political education for the community. Let us together encourage the active role of political parties to realize safe, honest and fair regional elections.
