Indonesia Successfully Drives Partnership Transformation to Achieve SDGs in HLF-MSP in Bali
Bali – Indonesia emphasizes the urgency of collaboration between various stakeholders in an effort to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This emphasis is not only aimed at the progress of Indonesia, but also to encourage development in other developing countries.
Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Vivi Yulaswati, said that Indonesia emphasized the importance of multi-party partnerships to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (TPB/SDGs) in Indonesia and other developing countries.
“TPB/SDGs is a collaboration platform between sectors, sub-sectors, countries, cities, to ensure that every process is collaborative, no one is left behind, for the next six years approaching 2030, concrete examples are needed, continuous synergy. In this HLF MSP 2024, we will listen to solutions and good practices from each country for us to adopt and implement each,” explained Deputy Vivi.
Based on the Sustainable Development Report 2023, Indonesia is now ranked 75th in the world, up from 102nd position four years earlier.
HLF MSP 2024 is an important means, including for Indonesia, for multi-stakeholder collaboration, sharing good practices, and producing concrete solutions to achieve the TPB/SDGs targets.
“Development in the context of TPB/SDGs requires transformation, Indonesia has prepared all of that in the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025-2045, all of this is very worthy for us to discuss, including hearing about the various rapid progress that has occurred in African countries,” said Vivi.
Previously, the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa emphasized that transformative steps and stronger international cooperation are needed for South-South countries to realize the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda.
He emphasized this at the High-Level Plenary Session of the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) 2024 entitled “Building Bridges: Unlocking the Full Potential of the Global South through Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships, Monday (2/9/2024) in Nusa Dua Bali.
The move comes as South-South countries face major challenges, such as unstable economic growth, infrastructure deficits, disruptions to global supply chains, the return of protectionist policies that are hampering and eroding global trust in global institutions.
“The world cannot afford fragmentation. Facing the current turbulent period is very challenging. Therefore, transformative steps and stronger international cooperation are increasingly important to push the agenda of Sustainable Development Goals 2030,” said Minister Suharso.
Also attending were Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Xanana Gusmao, Minister of Planning and Coordination of Development Assistance of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Guylain Nyembo Mbwizya, Minister of Planning of Cambodia Bin Troachey, Secretary-General of UNCTAD Rebeca Grynspan, and Ambassador of Spain to Indonesia Francisco de Asis Aguilera Aranda.
On that occasion, Timor Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao appreciated Indonesia’s leadership in the HLF MSP which raised important issues for developing countries and the Global South, as Indonesia did at the Asia-Africa Conference in Bandung in 1955.
“The Bandung Conference introduced important principles for South-South cooperation, such as respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful settlement of disputes, and the universal application of international law,” he said.
Xanana continued, these principles must continue to guide us in developing new models of multilateral cooperation and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
“Today’s high-level plenary session continues Indonesia’s tradition of building solidarity between Southern countries and supporting multi-stakeholder partnerships,” said Xanana.
