Indonesia’s Economic Progress in the Era of President Jokowi’s Leadership
Jakarta – During the leadership of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), the Indonesian economy has undergone a significant transformation that has affected various aspects of people’s lives throughout the archipelago.
It is known that the government under the leadership of President Jokowi continues to strive to improve the welfare of all Indonesian people.
Deputy for Coordination of Social Welfare Quality Improvement of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Nunung Nuryartono, said that the major work carried out by the government for the community in improving social welfare is in efforts to address poverty and eradicate extreme poverty.
According to him, the Jokowi administration is serious about accelerating the handling of extreme poverty, with the issuance of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 4 of 2022 concerning the Acceleration of the Eradication of Extreme Poverty.
Previously, Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that the Indonesian economy experienced relatively stable and fairly high growth for the global average level even though it continues to face dynamics and volatility where inflation is high globally.
“We can still maintain growth momentum in turmoil and situations where global economic dynamics are extraordinarily high,” said the Minister of Finance.
According to the Minister of Finance, this high economic growth has also led to improvements in Indonesia’s development index. Poverty has again decreased below pre-pandemic levels after previously increasing due to the pandemic.
“Poverty has decreased again after experiencing an increase due to the pandemic which was previously single digit at 9.4% in 2019, jumped again to 10.14%, but now we have dropped below pre-pandemic. So it is 9.03% below 2019. Likewise, we see that Indonesia’s extreme poverty continues to decline approaching 0 according to the Government’s target for 2024 to eliminate extreme poverty in Indonesia,” explained the Minister of Finance.
Under President Jokowi’s leadership, Indonesia has managed to maintain a stable rate of economic growth, despite global challenges. While challenges remain, these achievements provide a strong foundation for a more inclusive and sustainable future for Indonesia’s economy.
