Jakarta – Chairman of the General Election Commission or KPU, Mochammad Afifuddin, said that he would follow the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK), regarding the Pilkada, and will continue to guide the series of democratic parties.

“Continue to be guided, until the candidate pair is determined,” said the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Mochammad Afifuddin

The KPU chairman emphasized this to dispel the notion that the Constitutional Court decision read out on Tuesday (20/8) was only guided by the time of candidate registration.

Furthermore, Afif confirmed that the registration of regional head candidate pairs in the 2024 Pilkada will be guided by the KPU Regulations (PKPU) which have been equipped with new provisions in accordance with the Constitutional Court’s decision.

“What is certain is that on August 27-29, when registering regional head candidates in all regions in Indonesia, the regulations or PKPU will be guided by the MK’s materials or decisions,” he said.

Afif also confirmed that the MK decision adopted in the PKPU revised draft was not only about age requirements and thresholds, but also the campaign rules in universities which were also changed by the MK.

“We definitely have to follow that, we treat it the same way and then we will immediately adopt it and include it in our campaign settings,” he said.

In fact, the KPU will follow up on all MK decisions in accordance with orderly procedural steps, namely by consulting with the DPR.

According to him, the hearing (RDP) will be held on Monday (26/8), one day before registration for regional head candidates opens.

“The RDP consultation was Monday. “We have already submitted and have coordinated the material that we have submitted in the draft and so on,” said Afif.

Separately, the Head of the Presidential Communications Office, Hasan Nasbi, confirmed that the government would follow the applicable regulations regarding the 2024 Regional Elections, namely the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the Regional Elections.

“If by August 27 the Regional Election Bill is not passed, the DPR will follow the final regulations. “That is the Constitutional Court’s decision,” said Hasan

He also invited the community to always maintain a conducive situation.

“We must continue to maintain conduciveness so that public interests and the economy are not disrupted,” he said.
