President Joko Widodo Calls for Ban on Online Gambling, Encourages People to Save Money for the Future

Jakarta – President Joko Widodo has firmly conveyed the prohibition and dangers of online gambling. In his statement, the President invited the public to stay away from all forms of gambling, both offline and online.

“Never gamble, whether offline or online. “If you have extra money, it’s better to save it or use it as business capital,” said the President when giving a statement at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

The President highlighted the various negative impacts of gambling practices, ranging from loss of property to division within the family. Apart from that, the practice of gambling also contributes to an increase in criminal acts and violence in society.

“Gambling is not just about money, it is not just a fun game. “This is risking the future, both our personal, family and children’s futures,” said the President.

President Joko Widodo emphasized that the government is committed to continuing to fight online gambling seriously. More than 2.1 million online gambling sites have been closed by the government, and the formation of an online gambling task force is in the final process.

“An online gambling task force will soon be formed, which we hope will speed up the eradication of online gambling,” said the President.

Recognizing the transnational nature of online gambling involving various jurisdictions, the President emphasized the importance of society’s active role in addressing gambling. “The most important defense is from our own society and personal defense,” he stressed.

The President also invited religious leaders, community leaders and all citizens to actively warn, monitor and report gambling activities. The involvement of all levels of society is very important in efforts to build national defense against online gambling.
