Response to Megawati’s Speech on Recitation, Deputy Head of MUI: It is necessary for Tabayyun
Jakarta – The statement by the General Chairperson of PDIP Megawati regarding women reciting recitations has elicited mixed reactions. However, the public is advised not to rush into interpreting this statement and carry out tabayyun or verification.
Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI Waketum) Marsudi Syuhud said that the Indonesian people should be careful about statements that could trigger divisions.
“Currently, there are many sentences that are a bit of a trigger or divisive leverage. Finally there is hostility. Especially if in the future there are statements that are not in fact so, therefore the Indonesian people must be vigilant and look at the background.” Kyai Marsudi said in a discussion on television on Friday (24/2)
The Deputy Mayor of the MUI continued that the meaning of this statement could be interpreted in various ways, so that it could be right or wrong. Therefore, he invited the public to verify and tabayyun to prevent misinterpretation.
“For people who respond is something that is approximate, their own interpretation. There are right and wrong interpretations. So that it doesn’t go wrong, there is a context called tabayyun,” said Kyai Marsudi
Not only that, he clarified that the speech actually contained an invitation to the taklim assembly not only to focus on matters of the hereafter, but also world affairs, especially stunting.
“In my opinion, the sentence conveyed is that if possible the taklim assembly does not only concern the afterlife but also world affairs such as stunting,” he added.
According to Kyai Marsudi, the concept of balancing the world and the hereafter, including dealing with stunting, is a religious order.
“So if we are looking for the hereafter, don’t forget the world because in fact the world is the land for the hereafter,” he concluded
On the same occasion, Political Communication Expert at the University of Indonesia, Dr. Aditya Perdana explained that in the era of technological advances, every statement can be cut into pieces for a specific purpose.
“In the digital era it is not easy, as long as whatever the statement is, it will be cut into pieces according to the interests of the group which will then go viral. Of course, this has a purpose because it will spread,” explained Aditya.
He reminded all parties to be more careful because even the slightest statement could be politicized, including to pit one against the other. Especially now that we have entered a political year ahead of the 2024 elections.
“All parties will probably justify any means to win the battle during the election,” explained Aditya.
Not forgetting that he also asked the public to always check the correctness of information and strengthen digital literacy to avoid hoaxes peppered with SARA issues.
“There is hoax news, so we need confidence to always be careful and strengthen digital literacy, including filtering before sharing,” he concluded.
