Almost every special event or moment, false news or hoaxes often decorate, causing public unrest. The public was also asked to be aware of hoaxes about the XX Papua PON and support the success of the event.
At the PON XX event itself, news circulated regarding job vacancies to become the crew runner for PON XX Papua. The job vacancy information is widely disseminated through the WhatsApp group. In the message it was written that 900 people were needed for the XX Papua PON 2021 event in September – October 2021.
It also states the required qualifications, job description, Jakarta UMR salary or Rp 4.5 million per month, to a number of other facilities provided to job applicants. After investigation it turned out that the information was false alias Hoax. This news has been denied by the chairman of 2 PB PON, Roi Letlora. It also seeks to find out where the original source of the news came from.
Previously, there was news regarding a letter on the letterhead of the Papua Province KONI regarding the change in the number of XX PON sports which are planned to be held in 2020. The letter was addressed to the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, that based on the Central KONI letter Number 24 of 2019 regarding the determination of the branch sports, match numbers and quotas for XX PON 2020 athletes, which originally numbered 47 sports to be reduced to 35 sports.
However, this was dismissed by Kapisa as the Head of the Papua Youth and Sports Office, because at that time there had been no official statement or letter from the Papuan government for changes or reductions in sports. The sport of sepak takraw, which is rumored to have not been contested, appears to have been included in the list of contested sports, located in Jayapura City, which is the cluster with the most number of sports.
There will be 6,484 athletes from all over Indonesia who will participate in PON XX Papua. Then, there are a total of 37 sports, 56 sports disciplines, and 679 match/race numbers.
On a different occasion, Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali is optimistic that the XX PON will run smoothly. Menpora Zainudin also stated that PON was postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic, where the COVID-19 situation made it difficult to access the delivery of equipment and supplies to Papua.
Previously, the Central KONI had suggested that the multi-branch event be held without spectators in order to avoid crowds. This is inseparable from the condition of the Covid-19 pandemic where positive cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia are still high. PB PON XX Papua responded to the proposal by preparing its regulatory options.
The PB PON also promised to maximize broadcasting as a measure to anticipate this possibility. Although the finalization of the presence or absence of spectators at the PON depends on the decision of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.
Previously, Indonesian President Joko Widodo had given instructions regarding the acceleration of vaccination for athletes and the community around the venue. The Ministry of Health, through the Head of the Achievement Sports Health Section, the Directorate of Occupational Health and Sports Harry Papilaya, said that his party continued to prepare health needs during the PON. In June and July, they have conducted training for special health workers in charge of guarding PON.
On a different occasion, Deputy Governor of Papua Klemen Tinal said, the Papua Provincial Government plans to vaccinate about 2/3 of the people around the PON venue.
It also expects assistance and assistance from the Ministry of Health for the vaccination program for the community around the venue. If the community has been vaccinated, they can certainly participate in enlivening the sports party.
Meanwhile, vaccination has been running according to standards, for athletes and the general public. The reason is clear, at that time the Covid-19 cases increased and the construction of the venue was also hampered. The government certainly does not want to sacrifice the health and safety of all athletes.
If athletes, coaches and all elements that play a role in the celebration of PON XX have received vaccinations, of course, it is hoped that this event will run without significant disruption.
We also have a role in the success of PON XX, one of which is by not spreading unclear news about PON. The PON event is expected not only to roll out as a formality of a 5-year event, but also to run and be meaningful, especially for Papua Province, which this year will host XX PON.
