The Community Rejects Demos During the Covid-19 Pandemic
By: Abdul Hakim)*
The Abdul Muis version of HMI plans to hold demonstrations on August 13 and 16, 2021. This demonstration is certainly strongly opposed by the community because it is still a pandemic period, so they are worried about spreading the corona virus.
What is the public’s reaction during the corona pandemic? There are those who are sincere because they feel that this is a trial from the Almighty and choose to draw closer to Him. But there are also those who are full of emotions because the pandemic has made it difficult for them to move and their income has decreased somewhat. Those who felt this finally wanted to demonstrate and in the end blamed the government.
One of the parties who dared to demonstrate was HMI led by Muis. This organization rallied around the Merdeka Palace and will conduct a long march, starting from the HMI office to the Merdeka Palace. They even boasted that the demonstration would be attended by more people, and held in other parts of Indonesia as well.
HMI Muis was desperate to demonstrate because they wanted to convey several aspirations: first, August is not independence but the current government has not accommodated the needs of the people, second, the handling of the corona is not 100%, and third, the vaccination certificate requirement is a discrimination.
Demonstrations during the pandemic are certainly strongly opposed by the public and epidemic experts, because they can cause new corona clusters. Although the HMI promised to implement the health protocol, it would be very difficult. The reason is because the demonstration was carried out by thousands of people, causing crowds and difficult to maintain distance. In fact, if you come into contact with OTG, it will be fatal because of corona transmission.
Moreover, the delta variant corona can spread only by passing OTG, so if a demonstration does occur, there is fear of mass transmission. Plus, they would definitely take off their masks because the demonstration was in broad daylight, so it would be hot and stuffy. If there is such a situation, it is feared that there will be many potential corona patients.
Therefore, at every demonstration held by students or mass organizations, there is always a car belonging to the COVID-19 task force that is on standby to conduct random rapid tests. So that many will get tested and find out if he is positive for Covid. But actually the demonstrators have to reflect on the past demonstrations, because the test results show that many have contracted the corona virus.
If many of the previous demos ended up being very sick, why are you still desperate to do it? This is tantamount to hurting yourself by deliberately approaching the source of the disease. Don’t they love life? Considering that the delta variant corona is twice as virulent and spreads quickly, especially if those infected with this virus have not been vaccinated.
How sad it is when those who demonstrate because they protest the handling of corona but violate health protocols. They are the ones who are actually guilty of disobeying the regulations, and don’t always blame the government, because the government has actually prevented the spread of the COVID-19 virus with health protocols. But even violated by some people.
In addition, the requirements for a vaccine card are also reasonable and not discriminatory. If you travel abroad, you must show this card, let alone only within the country. More and more people are getting vaccinated and the government is targeting 1 million injections per day throughout Indonesia.
Come on, no more demos. The public is very bored because the organization is desperate to demonstrate even though it is still a pandemic. Do not be angry when the demonstration is disbanded because there is no permission from the police.
