Market revitalization is one of the priority programs of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade. Market revitalization aims to improve the competitiveness of the people’s market, both in terms of shopping convenience and quality assurance, and the quantity of goods received by the public or consumers.
The Ministry of Commerce prioritizes market revitalization programs for the use of the 2019 budget, in order to achieve the revitalization target of 5,000 public markets. The Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita, said that the first was the revitalization of the people’s market, because he had to pursue more than 5,000 until 2019.
Referring to the Ministry of Trade’s data, as of the end of 2016 there were 1,776 community market units that had been completed and revitalized. While in 2017, the government is in the process of realizing a plan of 1,003 community market units to be included in the priority with a budget of Rp 3 trillion.
In addition to market revitalization, Enggar said that the Ministry of Trade also gave priority to the development of non-traditional export markets, including maintaining traditional markets.
In this regard, Enggar is determined to finalize two economic agreements, namely the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Comprehensive Economic Partnership with the European Union or the European-European Economic Comprehension Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Regarding RCEP, member countries agreed to finalize the negotiations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in 2019. The commitment was stated in a statement with the heads of RCEP member countries accepted in Singapore.
It is known that the Ministry of Trade’s budget ceiling in 2019 amounted to Rp3,539 trillion, which included 10 activity programs. Some programs include the development of domestic trade of IDR 1,533 trillion, commodity futures trading of IDR 72 billion, consumer protection and trade rules of IDR 2,679 billion and an increase in foreign trade of IDR 148,617 billion.
The existence of market revitalization reflects that the government is consistent with its objectives of siding with the community by guaranteeing the workplaces of the traders and also providing a decent place for the community to access all their needs. It is our hope that together in the future the market will be managed and maintained properly by all parties.
