The Woman Of Twenty (W20) event which will be held in West Papua has many benefits, one of which is increasing women’s participation. With this activity, it is hoped that the women’s empowerment program in Papua will be more optimal.
Indonesia was selected as the host of the High Level Conference (G20 Summit). In addition to the G20, the side event, namely the W20, will also be automatically held in Indonesia, to be precise in West Papua. The appointment of the province is a great honor because it is believed to be the host for an international class event.
When the W20 took place, the speakers were women, namely the wives of heads of state from G20 members, namely Jill Biden, the first lady of the United States, Michelle Bolsonaro, the first lady of Brazil, etc. There are also representatives from ASEAN and Asia Pacific countries. They will hold a meeting about women and their empowerment, will also work together, in accordance with the theme of this year’s G20: recover together, recover stronger.
Chair woman W20 Handriani Uli Silalahi stated that there are many women’s problems in Papua and must be considered during the W20 Summit. He concluded this after holding a meeting with the Chair of the Papuan PKK, Mrs. Yulce Enembe (wife of Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe). Especially the most surprising thing is that there are still illiterate women on Earth of Paradise.
W20 will discuss how to eradicate illiteracy among women in Papua (who may be elderly and do not have time to attend school). In addition, it will also discuss the participation of women in various fields, so that there is equality between men and women as a principle of justice. Women are the pillars of the family so they must get their rights in full.
Equality of women is indeed a hot issue, and at the W20 event it will be discussed carefully. Speakers from other countries will provide suggestions and thoughts, so that after the event, there will be actual implementation. In a sense, W20 is not just talking about mothers but also has a positive impact on each participant.
Equalization of women must be done so that they get their rights. To eradicate illiteracy, scholarships can be given to Papuan women, apart from special autonomy scholarships. So they can go to school without fear of the cost. Meanwhile, mothers and grandmothers who cannot read can be visited by teachers to make their learning more effective.
In addition, women’s participation must also be increased again, especially in the economic sector. Women can be empowered and help their husbands to earn a living. Even though they are in the middle of a pandemic, they are passionate about getting halal sustenance. This holy intention can be helped by W20 with the help of capital to help them start their own business. Mainly because it is difficult to get credit when there is no collateral.
The participation of women from W20 can also be increased in the political field. Currently there are women politicians from W 20 member countries and have become an inspiration for Papuan women, that they can also do politics and save the nation’s future. The ministers and ambassadors are also many women, and show their intelligence.
The W20 event which will be held in West Papua is an important moment to increase women’s participation, especially on the Earth of Cendrawasih. Papuan women can also be empowered, show intelligence, and expertise in business. Women must be given the same opportunities as men to be more advanced. Do not let there be injustice because women should also be given the same rights.
