Moya Holds Discussion Discussing Indonesia’s Important Role in Resolving the Israel and Palestine War

Jakarta – Indonesia continues to strive to play a constructive role and support a just and sustainable solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. These efforts include diplomacy, advocacy, and humanitarian assistance.

Indonesia’s real action in resolving the war between Israel and Palestine is being awaited by the world, because Islamic countries, which are members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), do not have as much bargaining power as Indonesia.

This was said by former Indonesian Ambassador to Ukraine Yuddy Chrisnandi in the Moya Institute Webinar entitled “Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: Opportunities for Resolution”.

“If all Muslims in Arab countries were gathered into one, they would still not be able to match the number of Muslims in Indonesia,” said Yuddi.

It was this portfolio, he continued, that made Indonesia’s role in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict much anticipated, compared to Arab countries whose stance was unclear.

On the same occasion, the Chancellor of Jenderal Achmad Yani University, Prof. Dr. Hikmahanto Juwana, revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has qualified as a war criminal for his actions in attacking Gaza, Palestine.

However, according to Prof. Hikmanto, the problem is that Israel is not a member state of the Rome Statute (1998), which allows him to be tried by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“It could also be through another mechanism, namely a Security Council (UNDK-UN) resolution. “The UN Security Council could actually issue a resolution mandating the ICC to try Israeli leaders,” explained the international law expert,

“But, in the future, the US will definitely veto this at the UN Security Council, so the world body will actually be like a ‘toothless tiger’,” he added.

Observer of Strategic and Global Issues, Prof. Imron Cotan also explained that there are fundamental differences between Jews and the Zionist movement.

“Jews are generally good, because they have similar religious rules with Islam. “Meanwhile, Zionism is a political movement that wants the formation of a Jewish state on Palestinian land, rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state,” explained Prof. Imron.

Currently, said Prof. Imroon, the Zionists are in power in the Israeli government through the extreme right group led by Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hery Sucipto, Executive Director of the Moya Institute stated that the Moya Institute took the initiative to hold a webinar to analyze current developments, read possible potential solutions, including examining possible steps that Indonesia could take to play a more active role in efforts to create peace between Palestine and Israel.

He also expressed deep concern at the humanitarian tragedy that occurred in Gaza. Moreover, more than 50 percent of the victims of Israeli attacks were babies and children. And this is the largest number of victims since the 2000 Intifada.

For your information, in an effort to achieve peace between Palestine and Israel, Indonesia has played an active role in international forums such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Indonesia is also active in providing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people affected by the conflict. [-ed]
