Government Commits to Eradicating Radicalism

By: Andhika Rachman

Radicalism, as an extreme ideology that tends to lead to violence, has become a serious threat to the survival of the nation. With various efforts, the Indonesian Government has shown a strong commitment to eradicating radicalism and terrorism which can damage the social order and harmony of the nation.

Radicalism refers to an extreme ideology that often targets drastic social or political change, often through violent means. This ideology can influence individuals or groups to carry out actions that are against the law and social norms. In the Indonesian context, radicalism is often related to religious extremism which has the potential to disrupt inter-religious harmony and state stability.

The impact of radicalism is very diverse. From physical damage from acts of terrorism to psychological damage to society, the effects are devastating. Radicalization not only threatens public safety but also widens the gap in society.

The government’s efforts to eradicate radicalism have shown positive results, but challenges still remain. To achieve greater success, strong synergy is needed between government, society and various related parties. Apart from that, it is important to continue to evaluate and adapt to developments in the situation.

In order to prevent the spread of radicalism among students, the Government continues to make various efforts, one of which is by holding outreach in the school environment. Madago Raya Preemptive Ops Task Force II through the Touna Police continues to carry out various preventive efforts. One way is by holding outreach activities to schools, as was done at SMA Negeri 2 Ampana.

Head of Binmas Unit for Touna Police, AKP Ngatimin, said it was important to provide students with an understanding of the dangers of radicalism and maintaining tolerance between religious communities. Therefore, his party invites students to think critically and not be easily provoked by information that is not necessarily true because radicalism is a threat to national unity and unity that must be fought together.

Education is the main key in efforts to prevent radicalism. The government has implemented educational programs that focus on the values of tolerance, justice and diversity. This education is not only provided in schools, but also through community outreach programs involving various parties, such as civil society organizations and religious institutions.

Empowering the public to be more alert to radicalization is an important step in the government’s strategy. Community empowerment programs are designed to raise awareness and provide tools for communities to fight extreme ideologies. Through skills training, economic development, and social initiatives, the government is trying to reduce vulnerability to radicalism.

Regarding overcoming the dangers of radicalism and terrorism, the Government is continuously implementing this. The government is aggressively socializing efforts to prevent the spread of radical ideology of terrorism among society, to increase public awareness of the threat of terrorism.

Effective socialization can prevent early radicalization and strengthen social resilience. As carried out by the 121st TMMD Task Force of 2024 Kodim 1605/Belu which took place in the Malaka Regency area. In implementing this TMMD activity, the TMMD Task Force collaborated with the Malacca Police to hold outreach activities on overcoming radicalism and terrorism to the community at the TMMD location.

Dandim 1605/Belu Lt. Col. Arh Suhardi, ST said, counseling on dealing with radicalism and terrorism is one of the steps in anticipating and preventing the circulation of taxes on radicalism and terrorism.

Social activities to combat radicalism and terrorism can educate the public about the dangers of radicalism and extremism, as well as recognize the signs of radicalization. All elements of society need to participate and become part of national preparedness in preventing criminal acts of terrorism and understanding radicalism because threats will always be present in the midst of people’s lives.

Likewise, the Kasatgaswil Densus 88 also provides guidance on efforts to prevent intolerance, radicalism and terrorism which aims to change extreme understandings into moderate ones. Head of the Maluku Detachment 88 Regional Task Force, Police Commissioner I Wayan Sucauar said that understanding intolerance is the initial root, and if it continues in an excessive attitude then that is a form of radicalism which if continued will result in acts of terrorism.

Efforts to prevent acts of terrorism are carried out from the roots, so it is necessary to carry out outreach and assistance so that in the future the next generation is not exposed to radicalism, extremism and terrorism. Synergy between all elements of the nation is very necessary to create a safe and peaceful environment. ASN must be an example in maintaining the values of tolerance and diversity

Eradicating radicalism is a complex task that requires commitment and cooperation from various parties. The Indonesian government has demonstrated its strong commitment through various strategies, including education, community empowerment, law enforcement and rehabilitation. However, challenges remain, and continued efforts and adaptation to the changing dynamics of radicalism are essential.

With close cooperation between the government, society and other sectors, it is hoped that Indonesia can overcome the threat of radicalism and create a safe, peaceful and harmonious environment for all its citizens.
