The Papua Street Carnival event was officially opened by President Joko Widodo during his visit to Papua on 7 July 2023. The Papua Street Carnival event was held around the Papua governor’s office, Jayapura city, Papua.

“By asking for the blessings and grace of God Almighty, this morning I officially declare the Papua Street Carnival open and starting,” said the President at the opening of the Papua Street Carnival (7/7/2023).

The inauguration of the Papua Street Carnival with the theme “The East Great Spirit”, was marked symbolically by President Jokowi by pressing a button together with Menparekraf Sandiaga Salahudin Uno, Head of BIN Budi Gunawan, and Plh. Governor of Papua, M. Ridwan Ruusukun.

The Papua Street Carnival event is a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) and the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) assisted by the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

The President believes that the existence of the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) will give a big jump to the creative economic sector in Papua. This can be seen from the various products made by PYCH which were also exhibited at the Papua Street Carnival event, including the TOP.ID technology brand made by PYCH.

“Please enter the exhibition site and see for yourself how the so-called packaging of Papuan products, whether it’s coffee, whether it’s smoked fish, and other products related to fashion designers, is really a very visible leap.” Said President Jokowi.

“That was conveyed by the Minister of Parekraf, producing mobile phones, producing laptops, this was not done in western Indonesia but in eastern Indonesia in the Land of Papua. It was a leap,” continued the president.

It is known that the inauguration was also attended by the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, Minister of State Secretary, Pratikno, Minister of Investment, Bahlil Lahadalia, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Admiral Yudo Margono, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and other officials.
