Maritime Crime is One of the Discussion Agendas at the AIS Forum Summit

Nusa Dua, Bali – Indonesia is trusted to host the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum 2023 Summit, which will be held for the first time after being planned for the previous 7 years. AIS Forum Summit which will take place 10 – 11 October 2023.

President Jokowi said that there is great potential for cooperation in the blue economy and emphasized that we must also tackle maritime crimes, such as piracy, human smuggling, narcotics, including illegal unregulated unreported (IUU) fishing.

By involving itself in the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum High Level Conference (Summit), Indonesia can foster cross-country cooperation in efforts to manage and protect marine ecosystems, improve the economy of communities in coastal areas, develop renewable energy resources from the sea, and various other initiatives that support the vision of a sustainable blue economy.

According to the Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Ayodhia, GL Kalake, illegal fishing was the main discussion at the AIS Summit. However, actually it is not only focused on illegal fishing, but also on safe fishing, implementation of the blue economy, climate change adaptation and mitigation, marine waste which is included in overcoming marine pollution, as well as marine and maritime governance.

“This is our common concern, how we carry out sustainable fishing. “We hope that everyone will work together to overcome the challenges and threats to the sea,” Ayodhia told the media.

Previously, the Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Usman Kansong assessed that through holding the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, Indonesia was increasingly gaining world trust as a leader in various international forums.

“In recent years, Indonesia has been given the honor to host various international forums, including the AIS Forum. “This is an opportunity for us to show Indonesia’s leadership on the international stage,” said Usman.

The heads of state and heads of government who attended the AIS Forum Summit focused on making the blue economy a driving force, recovery and economic transformation by adhering to environmental sustainability and sustainability.

Usman also said that the AIS Summit in Nusa Dua would strengthen the solidarity of island countries in facing global climate change.
