Observers Appreciate Economic Performance in Jokowi Era and Support Smooth Government Transition
Jakarta — Economic and political observers appreciate Indonesia’s achievements under the leadership of President Joko Widodo, especially in maintaining economic stability amid global challenges.
They also stressed the importance of a smooth transition of government to the administration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto, to ensure the continuation of national development.
Athor Subroto, Director of the School of Global Strategic Studies and economic observer from the University of Indonesia, highlighted Indonesia’s economic resilience over the past decade.
“The existence of economic growth at the level of 5 percent is proof of the strength of the Indonesian economy in the era of President Jokowi. This is an extraordinary achievement, especially amid geopolitical pressures and disruption of the global supply chain,” he said.
According to Athor, one of the main factors for this success is the downstreaming program which has succeeded in strengthening the domestic economy.
Furthermore, the economic observer from UI emphasized the importance of a smooth government transition so that priority programs can be immediately implemented by the new government.
“President Jokowi’s commitment to support a smooth transition to Prabowo is a positive signal for market players and the public. A smooth transition will accelerate the implementation of the next government’s quick win program,” Athor added.
So far, said Athor, President Jokowi has a very strong spirit to continue to grow the Indonesian economy to continue to improve.
“Mr. Jokowi has such a great spirit to grow the Indonesian economy that the market has responded well to, like it or not, in fact our numbers continue to improve. Our economy continues to improve,” he said.
On the other hand, Faisyal Chaniago, a political economic observer from Bung Karno University, highlighted the importance of the harmonious political approach taken by President Jokowi in maintaining political stability.
“Prabowo needs to emulate President Jokowi’s soft approach, namely by embracing all political competitors to maintain stability. Political stability is the main key for the economy to continue to grow,” Faisyal explained.
Faisyal also supports the continuation of the downstreaming and infrastructure development programs that have been pioneered by the Jokowi administration, while emphasizing that the government transition must be carried out without obstacles.
“An orderly transition will ensure that all policies and programs that have been implemented can be continued well, so that the Indonesian economy can become stronger,” he concluded.
According to Faisyal, one of the important points for the next transition is to ensure that President Jokowi’s good programs do not fail to continue in the next administration.
“Programs that are already running, for example toll infrastructure, must not stop, because development is not enough for just 10 years, therefore it must be continuous, so it requires a smooth transition so that there is cooperation and synergy,” he concluded.
