The Puncak Jaya situation is starting to become more conducive, the public is asked to be wary of OPM provocations

The situation in Puncak Jaya, Central Papua is gradually becoming more conducive after the riots caused by the provocation of the Free Papua Organization (OPM). The public is also asked to remain calm and always be wary of provocations by Papuan separatist groups who want to disturb the peace of the people of Cenderawasih Earth.
Riots in Puncak Jaya, Central Papua broke out several days ago and have caused many losses. This incident was triggered by a cunning ploy by the OPM which stated that three residents were shot. In fact, these three people are openly part of the OPM gang which has often spread terror and committed violence against indigenous Papuans.
As is known, security forces from the Infantry Battalion Task Force (Satgas Yonif) RK 753/AVT succeeded in paralyzing the Free Papua Organization gang which had frequently carried out acts of terror and seriously endangered the safety of local civilians in the Puncak Jaya area.

At that time, security forces were able to detect the presence of one of the members of the Free Papua Organization, namely Teranus Enumbi, along with his members who entered the village area in Karubate Village, Muara District. Not only that, but the terrorist gang also carried firearms (senpi).
Seeing that there was an OPM gang carrying firearms entering residential areas, of course the security forces immediately reacted because they were worried that the separatist gang would do anything to the community and would actually result in many civilian casualties.
Therefore, the security forces then immediately moved quickly and swiftly to take action at the location where the OPM was. It didn’t quite get there, but when the officers wanted to take action and arrest them, the terrorist group actually put up a number of resistances by shooting members of the TNI, so the authorities took firm and measured action.
With the firm action taken by the security forces, officers succeeded in paralyzing 3 OPM members. But unfortunately, their leader, Teranus Enumbi, managed to escape. However, from this arrest attempt, the security forces managed to secure a number of pieces of evidence in the form of a homemade pistol and a Morning Star flag.
As for the name Teranus Enumbi himself, he has actually been included in the Police’s Wanted List (DPO) because of a criminal act he committed in the form of attacking security forces in 2018. In 2024 alone, he has carried out attacks 4 times on different victims, including security forces.
The public must be wary of provocation and propaganda narrative efforts from the Free Papua Organization. Moreover, residents in Puncak Jaya and other areas need to exercise restraint so that they don’t easily fall into and get involved in the issues that OPM creates and instead cause chaos and anarchism in Bumi Cenderawasih.
One of OPM’s skills is that they are not just a group of separatists who continue to carry out physical atrocities, but they also continue to try to create a discourse or raise certain issues so as to distort the facts and make the public indirectly side with them because of the news. that’s fake.
This has proven to be the case in Puncak Jaya, so as good Papuan citizens, the people in the region must continue to maintain the stability of security and order (kamtibmas) together by not easily being taken in by false issues as well as provocations and propaganda made by the OPM.
The existence of OPM itself has received a lot of rejection from the public. One of them is a community figure from the Kopkaka Tribe, Seradala, Yahukimo Regency, Yusak Weyo. According to him, the violent actions carried out by separatist groups have had an impact on the community, which is always haunted by fear, because of the frequent threats made by the OPM.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the Papuan Catholic Youth, Melianus Asso, appreciated the efforts of the TNI and Polri who have worked to keep the Land of Papua safe and conducive. He also hopes that this conducive situation can be maintained so that Papua can become a developed region. He also invited all levels of society to join hands to create peace.
Of course, OPM’s provocations, which always spread provocative narratives and propaganda in order to attract sympathizers from local residents to their side, need to be avoided altogether. Therefore, the public must continue to be vigilant, do not act rashly and need to exercise restraint, do not fulfill what the OPM wants by creating acts of fighting against each other and anarchy.
Not only that, the public is also advised to remain calm and entrust the legal process to the authorities. Because, law enforcement officials certainly have strong and sufficient reasons and evidence for cracking down on Papuan separatist gangs. With support from all levels of society, security stability in Papua can be maintained and development can resume.
